[Right when the world stood still, a single thought strayed through the jester's mind--]

'Why cling to life knowing you'll only die?'

[It was a down right miracle that Kefka managed to survive this long. The odds were against him from the start, the harlequin was close to death. Only once before did he ever feel so in tune with his mortality. It was a sickening and revolting feeling he honestly couldn't force himself to forget. When those blue beams of light came streaming his way, Kefka held out his hand towards them and everything went silent.]

Pathetic.

[Struck by the raw power of the keyblade, Kefka's entire form was engulfed by a bright blinding light that nearly shallow the entire plaza whole. No one believed Kefka when he claimed Godhood in the past, but perhaps now with these brave fools as witnesses, someone in this miserable town now believed him. If anyone dared to stare directly into the light, they could see several figures stretching upward towards the aquatic sky.

They were wings...]

[What draws Sora to the plaza is the faint sound explosions in the distance. The sounds of utter chaos erupting at the heart of Vatheon only increase in volume the closer he gets. His arrival is a timely one, and he comes to stand among at the edge of the loose formation of heroes just as an impossibly bright light envelops Kefka.]

What... what is that?!

[ sounds of war were definitely a way to catch Kenshin's attention. Only this was something he hadn't quite expected to see. It reminded him of facing off against Oda Nobunaga, the Demon King, but different.

He walks up behind Sora, his expression flat and serious. ]

Trouble. Whatever it is, it must be stopped as soon as possible with the fewest casualties.

"...Well," she mused out loud, glancing over at the two new arrivals. She gave her sword a small twirl, glancing back at Kefka to keep an eye on him. She suddenly had the feeling that, instead of watching from the sidelines, she'd have to step in now.

"Hello, Sora. Fancy seeing you here," she chuckled, finishing her cigar and tossing it off to the side.

[Whatever these maggots were mumbling about fell deaf to Kefka's ears. He wasn't even trying to listen to their words anymore. The angry god just wanted to hear their blood curdling screams as he rips them apart limb-by-limb. That's why as soon as that beacon of light began to dissipate, Kefka launched a preemptive strike.]

Be careful~! This spell likes to go BOOM!

[Kefka wasn't even kidding about that, especially since the spell he cast next was powerful enough to shatter the ground beneath his feet if he wasn't careful. Ultima was his second most powerful spell, a non-elemental attack similar to the impact of a missile. It shot towards them as a small white sphere of light before exploding like a multicolored firecracker of death. Let's just say that this spell usually triggers "Riggors", as in 'rigor mortis', but because of that gorgeous coral reef behind him...they won't be dying today.

The heroes better watch out!]

[Sora knows it's coming, and his first instinct is to protect. As the spell comes speeding towards them, Sora already has his keyblade up in mid cast of a Reflect spell. It envelops Integra just as the blast overtakes them. Even if Sora's been hit full force, at least Integra will be left intact.]

Integra's eyes widened; she knew what that spell was. He'd used it once before, when the pirate ghosts had been attacking. Of course, that one hadn't been aimed at her -- still, the explosion had been huge, and she could only imagine that this wasn't going to end well.

Her Hellsing blood and her pride won't allow her to cower away or close her eyes. Instead, she opted to merely stare up at Kefka and the spell as it neared --

...Only to realize that it hadn't hit her. She'd been spared. She hadn't been sure exactly what had happened, but she felt her stomach lurch at the thought of the others. "SORA!"

Quick on his feet, Kenshin wasn't about to let Sora take the force of the hit, nor was he about to let the newcomer get hurt either. He couldn't carry the both of them off himself so instead he withdrew his katana swiftly and gracefully and with a large sweep, sent ice to build up quickly in front of Sora to hopefully dampen the attack. Kenshin had never seen such an effect before, but at this point, he needed to test his skill and see what was effective against whatever that was.

The spell hit, the ice shattered into millions of glistening sparkles. "Please stay near the coral," he informed Integra as he resheathed his katana. With a quick sprint, used the sudden flash of sparkles as cover as he dashed forward to retrieve Sora to bring him closer to the coral.

[It was rather humorous to see everyone scatter about like oolops now. These bastards were so confident a moment ago, but now everyone was running scared and for good reason. Kefka growled in annoyance once the ice shield clashed against his spell, but it made a pretty nifty effect in the form of a dozen or so ice shards sailing through the air.]

Uwehehe! Running already? SUCH COWARDS! Whatever happened to killing little old me?

[These guys wanted a fight, right? Kefka was more than content earlier to just toy around with them, but then the dog demon had to piss him off and everything went to hell in a hand basket.]

COME ON! You idiots are the ones who STARTED this!

Well, hell. The guy can fly. Stein decided he shouldn't have been so surprised, glaring up at the harlequin. He was, after all, the self-professed "god of magic" - he had to have about 1000 different tricks up his sleeve.

But an entire field of destruction? That didn't surprise Stein in the least - at least, not the fact that he could do it.

Stein had enough time to twirl Soul before him, the scythe blade glowing with the power of their souls resonating. "SPIRIT BODY!" he shouted, and a giant, poufy body appeared, complete with a screw in its head and stitches covering its body. "I can't ~handle~ this!" the body cried as it was pummeled, keeping Stein and Soul safe in the middle. It disappeared and he glanced towards the coral, shouting at Sora, Integra and Kenshin.

"Do you need help?"

Ah crap!

[Inuyasha tries to jump back and away from the Ultima attack, but the ice still makes it difficult for his feet to get a grip. The following explosion, which not hitting directly, was still enough to send Inuyasha flying into the ground several meters away.

With a small groan, Inuyasha rolled over and got to his knees, using his sword to keep him steady. Glancing over, he saw Sora and the others huddled around the coral.]

You guys ok?!

Kenshin glanced over his shoulder. Quite a crowd had gathered, but that was to be expected considering the many warriors who found themselves here.

He looked back at whatever was causing this, his eyes narrowed with thought, strategies gathering in his mind. "Have any of you information about the source of these attacks?" he indicated whatever Kefka had become. "Strengths, weaknesses, origins. The more information, the better to form a successful counterattack with the least damage to ourselves."

*Selphie quickly ducks and weaves her way through the crowd, pushing past the warriors that had gathered too. But she didn't hide behind the coral, she ran straight into the direct eyeline of Kefka or...whatever that was*

Kefka!~

*There was every chance that he was completely out of it, that he was so far wrapped up in his magic that he couldn't recognise her. She stared straight at him regardless, blinking hard with wet eyes. And that was when Kefka would be hit with a SLOW attack, buying everyone a little more time*

Ah~! It's nothing like a moving demolition to get the heart pumping!

[Just when he was about to make it rain hell, fire, and brimstone, a very familiar girl called to him.]

Eh...?

[What is SHE doing here?! Selphie wasn't supposed to be here, but there she was!]

Hey! GET OUT OF HERE! It's not safe--

[Before he could finish, that annoying Slow spell halted his movements.]

Oh....crud.

*Selphie took a deep breath, knowing fine well that the slow wouldn't last long. Instead of retreating, Selphie raised her nunchaku in a defensive stance, staring steadily at Kefka. Behind her, over the coral and those hiding behind it, a protect spell was cast*

Kefka...Make it safe..

[Already preparing to cast Haste on himself to counteract the Slow spell, Kefka growled once Selphie spoke to him.]

I CAN'T! They're tryin' to kill me!

[Unable to attack for a few minutes, this was the best time for someone to come up with a plan now.]
