One Winter Night

Sometime during the middle of the night, the dear residents of Vatheon might hear a creak. As if something big was swaying precariously in mid-air. A loud and long creak as the thing in questioned swayed back and forth. Slowly becoming louder and louder and louder until, in an instant, the whole of Vatheon was covered in a shadow.

Blocking what little light came from the sky above, this shadow covered the city and seemed to laugh, madly, at something it found amusing. The shadow shivered and shook, black tendrils of the shadow beginning to seep under doors and around the light until all of Vatheon was cast in pitch black.

Careful, dear citizen, you might not be so lucky if you step outside tonight.

When the shadow was satisfied at the light it kidnapped, another creak was heard throughout the city. Except, if one was aware enough it might sound more like a moan. A sad, desolate moan, calling for its shadow.

Another creak.

And another creak.

Coming closer and closer and closer until--

CRASH

Somewhere in the lower district, whatever unfortunate souls found themselves lingering in that area might want to run. And run very fast.

A large, formidable looking pirate ship has crashed into the barrier, shaking the whole of Vatheon along with it. The coral in the center of the city seems to light up in sparks and the city almost... splits in half. There's a crack going throughout the length of the city for a split second before it fixes itself and all that's left is the coral. Sliced perfectly in half.

The pirate ship, on the other hand, begins to sink into the barrier. The barrier, as if on instinct, begins to slowly expand to close around the pirate ship. Except, half way around the pirate ship the city shudders once again, glowing a bright blue for a moment before stopping. The shadow from earlier hisses at the light before slinking away back to the pirate ship, casting shadows over a part of the lower district but leaving the rest of the city alone. Aside from the unfortunate locals, caught in the shadow's clutches while out during the night, lying on the ground, suffocated to death.

And with that, comes silence. The pirate ship, old and falling apart, gigantic and treacherous, new and exciting, is left there. Half inside Vatheon, half out in the water.

Do you dare explore?
