Having taken his gift from Vatheon back to their house before coming here with Mitsuhide, Motochika had used the opportunity to pick up his friend's present, which now resided within the leather satchel he wore.

It was fitting that Mitsuhide chose to start their exchange here, in the little spot of forest they'd previously claimed at their own. There was no better setting.

"Was that an instruction?" Motochika questioned lightly in response, wearing a faint smirk.

But Motochika did look; his gaze ran over the silhouettes of Mitsuhide's veiled woodwork projects, and paused at the smallest one. Somehow the shape seemed vaguely familiar despite being obscured by cloth. He spared a brief glance Mitsuhide's way before he approached it.

Then he stared, visibly surprised at what was unveiled. He instantly recognised the carving for what it was -- a Chōsokabe flagship -- after a second or two he sat upon the ground, then reached out, sliding his fingers over the replica. He took the time to examine the extent of the workmanship, tracing the detailing with fingertips. It was only natural that he knew every nook and cranny of his own flagship by heart; he'd not necessarily expected Mitsuhide to, however. He was aware that Mitsuhide saw his longing for what Vatheon had parted him from, but this was unexpected. The level of effort alone was remarkable ( ... )
