After having been torn directly from a battle with a dragon, of all things, Matthew was entirely justified in being on edge. His daggers were out, and he turned instantly to face the oncoming threat, eyes narrowed.
Upon recognizing Kagome, however, he simply sighs, letting his hands drop to his sides, and shaking his head.
"I'm fine." A bit of a laugh. "I've never been better."
He simply sheathes his daggers in response, laughing faintly. "Of course I recognize you. The girl who tried to cover me in paint. How could I forget?"
Matthew simply shrugged, grin now sticking more firmly on his face. "I'll be fine. It's just a minor injury. That sort of thing happens when you're in a fight," he responded, voice calm and amused.
"That is what I said, yes," he answered simply, looking around at Vatheon. Hmm, it hadn't seemed to change much since the last time he was there--it certainly didn't seem like weeks and weeks had passed.
She smiled at him but her eyes went to his cut and she frowned. Without thinking, she went to move his hair so she could see it better.
She blinked at the question and thought about it. "Uhh...its been a few days I think." She smiled at him. "You were in your land longer weren't you? It's really hard to believe, but I guess when we return to our homes, we're gone weeks and months, but it passes in one Vatheon day." She shakes her head and she stops thinking about it since it doesn't make sense.
And in automatic response, reflexes and reaction time still wired to his high-level tenseness, Matthew stepped right out of her hand's range. It was a subconscious response, but he was quick to offer her a grin as reassurance.
"Oh, is that all?" He nodded once or twice. "That makes it easier. But yes, if you were curious, it was definitely more than just a few days."
She stared as he backed up and she looked at him with confusion in her eyes. "I'm not going to hurt you." When she saw the smile, she relaxed and lowered her hand and bit her lip. Opening her backpack, she took out some bandages and held them out to him. "Here."
"I think so." She said and smiled slightly. "Saya seemed..." She wasn't sure what exactly. She told Kagome, that she didn't care and she was happy that he was gone, but Kagome thought it was a cover up. "but she told us about it and I think it was a few days ago."
"I know that," Matthew answered dismissively. As on edge as he was at the moment, it was pure instinct to not let anyone get near enough to touch him, though he knew Kagome would do nothing. It was a side-effect of his work, and of experiencing battle right before ending up...right back in Vatheon.
But he did accept the bandages. "Heh, thanks. It's not very bad, but this will help."
And with that, he tore off a square of bandaging, pressing it to the still sluggishly bleeding cut. As he did so, Matthew glanced at Kagome. "Saya seemed...?"
She stared at him and after a second, she smiled at him. "As long as you know." Some people don't like to be touched so she smiled and let it go.
She sighed with relief as he took the bandages. "It looks bad and I just wanted to help you." She said to make up for the fact that she tried to touch him.
She completely flushed and remained quiet. There was no way she was going to explain what she thought was going on between them to Matthew.
There was a short pause, no more than a few moments, and then he snagged the towel, laughing.
"I'm not, thanks. And she's not in love with me either." Matthew shook his head, grin still completely amused. "We're just friends, no matter how it looks."
"Matthew, are you okay!"

"Matthew...don't you recognize me?" She took a step back and suddenly wondered if she would have to fight him. Has he forgotten Vatheon?
"You're covered in blood." She said as she went to step up to him again so she could look him over.

"Are you sure? I can help you if you would like? Who were you fighting?" She reached out to a hand on his shoulder.

"Really, I'm fine. Just a bit of a war going on back home, you know."
He pauses, contemplative, and continues, "It doesn't particularly matter here, though."

"If you say so. A war?" her eyes widened and she looked him over even more.
"No, I guess it doesn't."

"Hey, Kagome, how long have I been gone for?"

"Now you don't want to tell me? I wonder what it could be."

"Well...it all depends on if you...you're in love with Saya."
