So I was thinking...
I own a cat. Two actually. They're cute and furry, and at times I'm convinced I love them too much. Today, though, I realized something. I am their government, and they can't exist without me. I provide everything they they need. I give them food and health care (trips to the vet). I keep them inside, because outside is a "big scary world" with lots of cars and predators (coyotes). I restrict them from things that are harmful to me or themselves. If one has something the other wants I make a point to get the same thing for the other. Even if they want something bad, I can choose not to give it to them.
Its' strange, but my household exists in a state of perfect socialism.
The only reason it works is because:
They are cats. They may have no true loyalty to us, but they are happy to be taken care of and I'm happy to take care of them. They are satisfied with a simple life. They have no dreams or wants or desires that they wish to accomplish. I have not stifled any dreams of artistic creativity in them, or a desire to cure illness or a need to explore scientific discovery. They're stupid, and have no dreams. They just want food and sleep and pets when it's convenient.
Besides, they can't exactly "rise up". I'm bigger than them.
The morale of the story? I'm no cat.
