Wow, it's not even 10:30am, and I'm already fed up with today. Not for any other reason than a few annoying people, and some misbehaving arrows. The stupid feathers won't stay on. In other news, I just heard a NIN song during an olympic event. Yus!!!!
The news for me personally lately has been boring. After New York two weeks ago I had a week at home and spent the beginning of this week in Florida for meetings at the office. I think I'm in at KRK. I was at dinners that other people at my level weren't invited to. Nice. My work load is increasing, and as of now I say bring it on.
We got our first batch of DDT Nothing physical CDs yesterday. It took me a moment to reconcile the fact that we actually ordered real CDs. Seems like nobody wants a real CD anymore (except me and few others I know). They do look great though and everything came out perfect on them. The album is officially up in every format it was meant to go to. We are riding a serious wave lately, and our myspace has been going insane since the announcement of the disc.
Now that the album is out, I decided to re-evaluate my life and some of the things I enjoy doing. For the past few years, everything I do seems to involve music all the time. My day job is in the industry, and that's very cool, especially because I'm useful for my expertise as opposed to sales abilities. At home it's been all about the mastering studio and the band.
The band, which has been at glorified hobby status for long time, has been a great release of artistic creativity and has been a lot of fun over the years. I'm sure it will continue to be so, and I feel a great release when I don't pressure myself with the pursuit of extraordinary success. Aside from the normal "gear lust" issues concerning the band, I do have intentions of doing mastering full time at some point. With this in mind, I very seldomly free up any money or time for anything outside of music, since the gear is so expensive. The two things holding me back right now are needing a bigger and better space for the mastering studio to reside in, and getting some advertising going. With that in mind, I'm working on building my mastering resume and if things go right the space thing won't be an issue much longer. We're also getting ready to launch a full internet ad campaign.
All that aside, I find myself craving to get back to some of my other hobbies which I have neglected. I've been into photography since I was 10 or so. I used to hang with my uncle who was a professional photographer a lot. He gave me my first camera and taught me how to use it. It was a completely manual camera and I had a lot of fun with it. For this reason I've always kept a fairly nice camera around and used it frequently. A few weeks ago, I diverted some money from band and studio stuff to get a new Canon EOS 40D. Since then I've added a killer tripod, a super wide angle lens and an L series telephoto lens. I now have a fantastic camera rig and I'm looking forward to shooting everything from wildlife and landscapes to architecture and fetish portraits.
I also have been thinking about archery again. I used to be really into it. I shoot traditional recurve, since I grew up shooting guns all the time, it was a nice change of pace. That and I don't send $100 down range every time I do it (ammunition is expensive). I just finished making a set of arrows that I've been working on for close to 7 years. They usually take about a week to finish, but I just never did. If the feathers can stay on (I tried a new glue that sucks), I'm looking forward to shooting them.
Maybe if I go out in the this wonderful weather, I'll feel better. I hear it's snowing in the mountains.
