Where I went and when? It was the CVS near work, in pedestrian-friendly downtown Decatur, on my lunch break. My story may have made it sound like it was a middle-of-the-night desperate situation, but it was not.

Now I am thinking maybe a vending machine could satisfy security without the inconvenience of dealing with the staff, but I am not sure how that could be made compatible with the store model of having to go through the checkout.

Huh. Those crazy Decatur college girls always stealing rubbers I guess. Either that or the people are freakin' incompetent -- none of this invalidates your larger points.
