Today on my book at work, I was scheduled to clean the refrigerator. Mind you, I have never opened this refrigerator and have barely even been in the room that holds it in the year that I've worked in this spa.

That's kind of fucked up, to actually schedule a commission-based technician to clean the refrigerator when there are hired spa assistants who get paid by the hour to do things like clean.

Today is Saturday. Saturday is the most horrible day to work in a spa if you are trying to maintain your sanity. It's theoretically a good day for making money, but at least half of Saturday clients are late for their appointments. When they don't get their full services and are charged the full amount, as the late arrival policy states, they still for some reason complain and get discounts and aren't expected to tip, which comes out of my pocket and stays on my record and makes me look like a bad massage therapist. This happens all day long, which is an 8 hour shift instead of the usual 6 hour weekday shift. Except I have to be there early and usually end up having to stay late, so make it 9 hours. In the course of all this, I have to keep a calm, relaxing demeanor. Om.

If I play my cards right, which I've started to do, I do get a generous half hour for lunch. But in order to get this, I need to schedule buffers after my clients and request 45 minute lunches. If I schedule a 30 minute lunch, I'll actually get a 10 minute lunch. I need to do this at exactly the right moments throughout the morning, or they will not hesitate to book me solid for the entire day.

As you can see, Saturday really isn't the best day for me to be cleaning the mess of grown men and women inside an appliance that I couldn't even tell you is black or white. Or that fancy stainless type.

I would be much more likely to play maid if I was asked to do it on a Monday or Thursday, which are when I usually spend at least 4 hours twiddling my thumbs, taking naps, shopping, eating, gossiping, reading magazines, et al. But instead, they scheduled it for after my 9 hours of hard labor. And sent me a page asking me to bring any concerns to my manager.

I didn't clean the refrigerator today. Maybe I'll get to it on Monday.
