So I guess I don't work anymore.
In short: I told them that I needed a mental health day on Saturday, and they said that if I took off, I no longer had a job. The following things happened during my phone conversation with my manager:
1. She immediately launched into accusations that I wasn't available during the weekends. I had to point out that 'this Saturday' doesn't mean 'all weekends' and that I had offered to work Friday night instead of Saturday and that I was working Sunday.
2. I started to cry, and explained to her that it was because I was so burned out and drained that I could barely function. I also told her that I hadn't had a decent sleep or meal in a long time. She proceeded to yell at me to stop.
3. I told her that even though I've only worked there for a week, that my grades and attendance at school were already slipping because I've been working too much. She yelled, "Working too much?! What, do you have another job??"
4. I told her that coming straight from school to work and staying there until 11 only to wake up at 7 the next morning to do it all again two and three days a week (along with weekends) was working too much. She said that the workload had to be heavy for the first two weeks because we had to be trained.
5. She said the best she could do was let me come in late on Sunday and I said it wasn't good enough. She said that if I didn't come in Saturday, she'd have to 'discuss my future at H&M'. I said that was fine, and she hung up on me.
The next list contains things that don't quite make sense about H&M and that conversation:
1. Don't they realize that all they're doing is selling clothes in the mall?
2. Don't they realize that most people who come to the mall looking for a job are not actually looking for a career?
3. What's the rush to train us? There's no holiday or special retail season coming up. There's no reason to burn us all out before we even get past training. Hell, one of the other new employees is in the military. She's been through boot camp, and even she thinks that the work is way too intense. Doesn't it say something when your retail store is more physically demanding than the military?
4. My schedule was the same for longer than two weeks.
5. Isn't it a bit unprofessional to hang up on your employees when they're in tears asking for your help?
Nine dollars an hour for retail? I knew there was a catch. I feel better without them anyway.
I've been getting veggie subs from Subway with cheese, lettuce, onions, black olives, cucumbers, jalapenos, mustard, and Old Bay. They're so good.
PS. I want to be a pinup girl.
