Because I'm a huge fan of lists (they help me retain most of my sanity).
What am I currently doing? There are always five stages and several projejects at any given stage - Selling, Writing, Finishing, Brainstorming. (Yes, I separate Writing and Finishing, because Finishing takes different skills to Writing, at least for me).
- Selling "Test of Faith", a novella I co-wrote with the incomparable
llwynog, hopefully, a sale will happen within the year.
- Writing "Not America", a short story for the German market for a David Bowie-inspired anthology. I think that's just a few hundred more words, the story is short and snappy and really written towards one punch line. It's wicked fun.
- Finishing "What Price War",
llwynog and my... how would I describe it? It's contemporary, Second World War, and still it has some mystical elements. It's 30k at the moment and I estimate it's going to be around 40-50k.
- Finishing "Blood Run Cold",
llwynog and my vampire porn project, which is 90% done and just needs an ending. The ending, needless to say, is the toughest bit in anything.
- Finishing "Chaosborn",
llwynog and my urban fantasy novel, which, again, is 90% done, needs a grand finale, and, uh, very likely a bunch of sequels.
- Editing "Special Forces" into the Director's Cut version. This is an ongoing project and will likely take about a year or so. Maybe 6 months, depends on how much idle time I have. (Little voice from the peanut gallery: "Did he just say "idle time"?")
- Making a plan for the re-work/edit of "To Catch a Spy",
llwynog and my m/m/f menage spy story. First draft is completed, now all it has to do is make sense on the spy side of the story, but I think we already tackled a few major issues. I just can't stand sloppy plotting, and if I don't like it in others' books, I positively hate it in my own.
- Making a plan for the re-work/edit of "Return on Investment", my gay financial thriller. I'm still blocked about it, so I might have to ease that one out very gently.
- Brainstorming "The End of the World (Working Title)", a historical novella I want to write in the next 3-4 weeks for an anthology.
- Brainstorming "Transit", a short story for "I Do, too".
(And that's only the stuff I want to do. I have a ton of work that I need to do, and a ton of stuff that I /should/ do).
Out of these, "Not America" "To Catch a Spy" and "Transit" are current priorities, because even though I'm good at writing lots of things at the same time, I always focus on 2-3 projects.
Yeah. I think that's what I was planning to do /this/ year, but 2010 already starts to look a little crowded.
Edit: "Test of Faith" is sold, Transit is written
