I feel so behind the times it's not even remotely funny. Anyways, as a precautionary measure, I've created new mini-me's at IJ and GJ under
vasher and
vashnic, respectively. Curse whoever took vasher.greatestjournal.com . Not that I anticipate getting outed here, as I am but a tiny fish in the sea of big salty fandoms, but it's always nice to have backups- especially backups that give you so many shiny userpic slots. <3<3
Also, I am a territorial bitch.
Apropos of nothing, let it be known that Jason Bourne >>> everything. SRSLY.
I've been making my way through the first few hours of FF7 after a long and frantic, but ultimately fruitful search for the wayward third disk. Got a bit worried that I wouldn't ever find it and called around the local game stores to find a copy, but apparently they've phased out all the PS games when I wasn't paying attention. o_o And the cheapest used copies on Amazon were $50+, which really blows my mind. Methinks that I should have hoarded a bunch of them early in my life and sold them all now.
1.Buy many many copies of old Squeenix games.
2.??
3.??
4.Profit!
Well, maybe not so old school, since apparently many people consider FF7 to be the start of the current Final Fantasy archetype, and FF as a series is not a particularly old series in the greater scheme of things, but I've never played the previous games, so no opinion from me there, and lud, there's been a big influx of fans that haven't even played the original game.
Replaying the game really made me notice how much the Compilation veers off from what I expected of FF7... mythos, I guess. There's a big chunk of dorky self-deprecation that these sequels seem to be lacking. Chocobo racing (hell, just chocobos- where's the bird love? ;_; That's the first thing my FF hating brother remembers when I mention 7), Gyahahahaha!, Wallmarket, Honey Bee Inn- oh man, that inn... I am not seeing much of this in the new stuff, and that's a large chunk of the reason I <3 FF7 (and FF8, but not so much FFX...that's for another ramble. >_>)
I love Cloud to bits, but his AC version (and from what I've seen of his KH2/DoC self) could use a helping of 'cheer up, emo kid!' What happened to the confused, moseying, stammering and not so slightly insane woobie that I geeked out over for all these years?
And then there are these SOLDIER prototype guys that weren't mentioned at all before DoC and Crisis Core. One Sephiroth is enough, thank you Squeenix, and I highly doubt that your Gackt insert is going to measure up, regardless of apparently what your previews are not so subtly hinting. There's only one One-Winged Angel, dammit, and if there turns out to be some uber Two-Winged Angel that came before Sephiroth, I'lI...I'll... write a strongly worded letter. So there.
I think one reason that I took to the SHM so much is that there was already a precedence for bits of Sephiroth coming back to harass Cloud and Co. Really, it was only an extension of the whole clone business, and they never pretended to be anything other than aspects of him, though they strove for more. It fit neatly into my perceptions of the game universe.
Also, Turks. Why are there so many new (yet actually supposed to be old) Turks? You only ever see (or hear about) the four, and even Elena was hired because Reno was injured early on. Not conducively suggesting a large organization.
Huh, after reading Bugenhagen's speech again, I just realized that the Lifestream = the Force. (Firefox spelling acknowledges Darth Vader as correct, yet not Sephiroth. I am amused.)
