I finally manage to get home and it's to this?! I'm not sure what's worth: imminent death by black hole or a potential collapse of reality!
[Kyon is running, dragging a girl in orange ribbons behind him. It's Haruhi--the Haruhi Kyon knows--and she certainly looks to be her age and a little overly excited.]
Isn't this amazing?! Something interesting is finally happening and we're right in the middle of it!
I wouldn't call it amazing when we could very likely die!
[Why is Kyon so panicked and Haruhi so excited? Because large blue beings of energy are smashing the city around them, a few are even chasing after them though they are impeded by bright red orbs flitting about like curious moths to the flame. A few of those orbs are managing to stop the beings, but it's slow work and there is only so much so few can do against such a large number.]
But we'll be fine! I can feel it! Those things won't hurt us! They're just confused about where they are! Maybe if we stop and try to talk to them we could--
[One of the red orbs crash lands right in front of them and both teens skid to a halt, identical looks of horror on their faces.]
How sick is it I'm glad Miss Asahina is likely still stuck aboad that ship facing her death? Better that than shave her see this.
[The orb resolves itself into a handsome but very injured boy, dangerously still, limbs skewed at various angles, and the crater his body made at the impact making it quite obvious that if he isn't dead yet he will be very shortly.]
[Haruhi is visibly shaken, and shakes off Kyon's hold on her wrist before marching into the crater, obviously scared about touching the boy.] K-Koizumi? Y-You were fighting those things?
Please just let this be a nightmare. I wasn't particularly fond of the guy, but to die like this? In front of Haruhi, no less?! This isn't right. There's no way she'd wish for something like this!
[Kyon takes a tentative step into the crater to where Haruhi is huddled over the still boy. He puts a hand on her shoulder, obviously meant as comforting gesture. Haruhi shrugs him off as if she's just been burned.]
Haruhi?
[Haruhi snarls] They killed him!
I don't like where this is going.
Haruhi, we have to go.
No! Those things killed the Brigade's Vice Chief! I can't forgive them! H-he was protecting us and they-they-- [Haruhi looks up at Kyon. Her face is surprisingly dry, but the look in her eyes is one that's a little too familiar to Kyon, one that he had hoped to never see again.]
She looks like the other Haruhi when I first met her and thought I was an imposter.
We have to go! If he was protecting us do you think he'd want us to stay here?!
[Haruhi stands, so defiant Kyon has to take a step back. It's clear as day: Haruhi's will is to be obeyed and no one can deviate from the path she's set before them. She will not allow it.
It's just a shame the blue beings suddenly become even more violent. The orbs are falling one-by-one under their onslaught, leaving trails of blood red light in their wake.]
They made a direct attack on the SOS Brigade, Kyon! This means we mustn't run away from! Koizumi died fighting them! It's only right the Brigade Chief herself defies them! For his sake!
[Kyon grabs her wrist, trying to drag her behind him before the beings catch up with them again.] Do you think he'd want you to get yoursef killed for the sake of revenge?!
[Haruhi shakes him off, tears finally pouring down her face. She doesn't bother to wipe them away. Her world has been shaken too much by the violence of Koizumi's death and it's plainly evident in her voice.] I DON'T CARE! THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE OUR FRIENDS, BUT LOOK WHAT THEY'VE DONE! THIS ISN'T HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE!
[Without another word and before Kyon can argue, she whips around and sprints towards the beings, screaming in pure unbridled rage.]
I don't have a choice, do I?
[Kyon runs after her, trying to gain ground. She's faster than he is--always has been--and he skids to a stop when a being smashes through a building--one Haruhi had been passing right in front of. There's a pained scream and for a moment everything seems to completely stop.]
HARUHI!!!
[Kyon isn't even thinking at this point. He's running towards the rubble, trying to yank it off. This is a futile endeavor. Haruhi was caught in the middle of it and the ruins of the building are quite large.
HARUHI! CAN YOU HEAR ME?! I'M GETTING YOU OUT OF THERE! JUST HOLD ON!!!
[Better hurry, Kyon, another shinjin is rapidly approaching.]
