Remember that embarrassing rant by Christian Bale...

When I first saw the story mentioned in the papers I thought Oh crap Christian is going to get slaughtered by his fans and the haters will gloat. I dare not go to YouTube to see the comments made about him when millions of people uploaded the rant onto the site. I know how much wank YT gets. It's easy to picture. Having this story follow the story of his 'assault' on his mum during the Dark Knight premiere in the UK just sucks in timing. Can't imagine what's going through his head.

Like many, I found a downloadable clip of his rant available. Curiosity kills and I took a listen. What I was subjected to -apart from a change of accents in between- was a lot of fuck this fuck that fuck you and my first reaction was dude calm down. I listened to it a few more times and wondered what drove him to burst out so suddenly. I suddenly wished I was there to see what really happened.

I didn't find it funny and Christian's explosion reminded me of a clip where Hayashi Yoshiki was under pressure and lost his temper at a colleague, swearing a bit. Yoshiki haters took this as an opportunity to say See see? This is why we hate him. He's an egotist, an arrogant perfectionist who thinks he owns us Well who isn't a perfectionist? I panic like hell if something doesn't seem right... to the point of losing my sanity. I want a particular task to go well. Why is that such a crime?

Then again... I couldn't tell someone to calm down if I myself blow up quite a bit at others. Christian sounds like a perfectionist. I'm a perfectionist and if I were to say I don't lose my temper when something goes wrong that's being hypocritical. Haters do not accept the excuse of him being human, more like an narcisstic psychopath. So what does that make the victorious hater then? A RL perfect Gary Stu/Mary Sue who does no wrong?! They have taken Christian's outburst as the perfect evidence to prove he's not a saint but an arrogant, overpaid bastard who looks down on others. example --> here

I don't know Christian Bale as a person. Never met him and only count myself as a fan of his films. Many have noticed how intense his acting can get and I appreciate how he can effectively pull off nice characters but also dark, psychotic men. His darker characters have of course made me a bit panicky and before the ridiculous tape of him shouting leaked on the net, while watching his films where he's not exactly a nice guy, I was already thinking how careful I would have to be if I met him IRL. Isn't that the same with all famous faces? When you meet someone you admire of course you're going to be nervous and cautious. Who knows if he'd go all Batman or Patrick Bateman on me if I did something wrong. So hearing the moment of his Terminator Salvation onset craziness was a shocker at first however it made me ask myself, hang on haven't I lashed out at a colleague, family member or friend? Oh crap, I have. As I said earlier I wish I was there to see what happened to form a proper opinion.

Christian's behaviour did sound unprofessional and he didn't have to growl like that, maybe take him in the corner and have a chat there. But if the person he was talking to had done the same mistake more than once it's inevitable the 'victim' was going to get a bollocking again. Hey I've been shouted at by my boss a few times during my first job for making the same error a lot. I know the feeling. Unlike a large number of fans, hearing the tape didn't make me hate him and I'm not going to boycott his films. It has made me alert and indicates a warning to not piss him off. According to reports Christian was in an intense, emotional scene and to have been distracted in something like that is going to mean an uh-oh. I've been interrupted while writing stories and a scene which has been flowing smoothly is abruptly put to a stop because someone ruined it. Yeah my creativity was killed alright and yes I wasn't happy *cue rant.*

I have yet to see Terminator Salvation and since that incident it has lowerered my original expections even more. I never believe in hype anyway but when I heard Christian was going to be John Connor I was intrigued, but not 'omg this is going to be awesome if it's Bale'. It's not worth doing that. Some critics say John Connor was an unlikeable character and because of what Christian did in the past they've now gone to pummelling the actor in their reviews. Sick coincidence perhaps?! People say he didn't have to apologise but I think Christian has more guts than me to go out and apologise for what he did. I'm often a stubborn git who has trouble saying sorry. What Christian has done will definitely put a dent in his film career but I'll still be keeping my eye on his work as he's one of the few actors to catch my eye so deeply. I never EVER thought of him as an angelic figure in the film industry. His interviews are insightful before and after his embarrassing incidents for assault and screaming at a film crew member but no way is he a God or a perfect person. And I like him being imperfect. It allows him to play psychos to great effect.

Fellow Bale fans have contributed their thoughts on the LJ communities quite nicely so I can't add much as people have taken the words right out my mouth.
