Despite the shitstorms of 2014 (problematic faves saying stupid things, people leaving or being chucked out of their designated roles, nature being furious, fandoms showing their light and dark) and me bailing out...yes there was music I liked. Rebounds or not.
I've reviewed some of these and ICYMI I've provided links
~~Tunes~~
Rain Effect - Bi ~ one of my Oppa made a comeback. Notable song for me was 30sexy age-related lol. The entire album was still good. It had been a while since Bi was on my playlist. My
review Rise - Taeyang ~ Eyes, Nose, Lips is the "Let It Go". Covered to death for sure. It's a great song but the number of covers is insane. A definite follow-up to Solar. My
review. I also reviewed the extra song Rain wrote that is included on the special edition of Rain Effect. It's called
I Love You.
Let's Love - C-Clown ~ the guys stick to their hip-hop sound since Justice was released earlier in 2014 but there are tracks that have deja vu of their previous music style so any Crowns disappointed with the new concept might feel a little at ease with the songs that slow it down or show the vocalists' talents nicely.
Got It? - GOT7 ~ slow burn for me but I got into it after a few listens and I blame the boyfriend version of the I Like you dance practice video.
Got Love - GOT7 ~ Super throwback to 90s pop music. 90s boybands those were the days. "A" was a jam and I liked how they filmed the MV in Malaysia (NGL but I really wanted to be an extra if I was in MY for holiday but that'll never ever happen). Forever Young is another fav of mine. Here is a detailed
review Identify - GOT7 ~ Stop Stop It is so catchy, as is Gimme. Will have to repeatedly listen to the album to see if more songs stick out to me. But yes, there is definitely 90s pop lurking here. Deja vu of BSB, TT and NKOTB
Drawing The Line - Royal Pirates ~ Funky pop rock trio. I got into their music after watching them on ASC.
Love Toxic - Royal Pirates ~ Swooned over Betting Everything when it was released digitally (the acoustic version is to die for). Love Toxic carries that funky sound these guys manage to pull off really well.
~~What made me sit up and go fuck yes~~ **i.e. endless repeats**
Overdose - EXO ~ yes this is inevitable and I can't exactly hide my EXO-L-ness/fondness for the dead OT12 but this was an incredible EP. All 12 have had their ups and downs and this has caused a rift however let's hope everyone is satisfied with doing what they do best. Overdose is by far a mature sound for the guys. Love Love Love being a guilty pleasure (M's version especially). My
review First Sensibility - B.A.P ~ EYK calling the guys Bitch Ass Pussies because their comeback song for this album had them crying in the MV. They obviously missed the guys's hard hip-hop image though I'm sure they've listened to the entire album and noticed that the songs vary in genre. If you say Bang x2 has them being pussies I'd be surprised EYK. In all honesty this album gave me so much life during the early days of 2014. You can headbang, you can tear your heart, you can cry, you can feel sensual...a huge mix. My
review. Side note ~ B.A.P you are fabulous. Your different images and music styles in various songs show very well in the likes of One-Shot, No Mercy, Warrior, I Remember, Rain Sound, Coma and Coffee Shop.
Skool Luv Affair - BTS ~ I have both editions and oh wow the more I listened the more I liked. Hip-hop with a mix of rock which sometimes reminded me of B.A.P yes I approve. Sorry for being late to the party BTS. ARMY Noona is a late-bloomer jsyk.
Dark & Wild - BTS ~ this was the first album I officially bought as a growing ARMY. Once again seeing some of the continuous rock-inspired tracks with plenty of hip-hop satisfy the grumpy me. Let Me Know is a killer ballad...Suga I heart you for producing this.
Time Boils The Rain + There Is A Place - Wu Yifan ~ the cover of the Tiny Times theme tune gave me shivers. It made me feel more emotionally invested with the song and it was fitting for WYF's situation. If that gem wasn't enough for the MGN, Yifan's composition came along to tear the hearts out of his fans. There Is A Place is a song for his forthcoming film Somewhere Only We Know and his good friend/ex SM Trainee Song Bingyang helped him out. I don't expect much from the film as I said previously -for many reasons- but I'm sure this song gives the fans a flavour of what to experience in the film.
