Earth: it's still better than New Caprica:

Lots of intense stuff in this episode.  And the music was off the hook.  And Adama Sr's breakdown!  That was incredible.  My heart still bleeds.

But, in the end I have to point out,  the planet didn't look quite bad enough for them to look that depressed.  Lots of scrap metal.  Rich soil.  Maybe the ( Read more... )

Hey Vash. Found your LJ a little while ago linked to from another Odfellow (can't remember which one offhand)--not sure if you remember me, but we met at World Fantasy last year. I did Odyssey in 2002.

As for BSG, I'd think it would be a bigger blow for the humans, actually. Remember that Earth isn't supposed to be just any old habitable world--it was supposed to be the home of the 13th tribe. For the humans, that meant that homo sapiens wasn't just limited to the 39,000 or so in the fleet who survived the Cylon attack on the 12 colonies. When they found Earth, there could potentially be billions of other humans there.

If the place is a shattered wreck, then sure, they might be able to settle there, but it means that the estimated human population in the universe just got a whole lot smaller.

Of course, when I saw them reach Earth I just started muttering "Not the 1980s. Not the 1980s..." :-)

LOL! RTFL! True that. I was so hoping it wasn't a revisit of Galactica 1980 as well.

I guess for me, I just never expected there to be people on Earth. Cylons maybe, but not humans. But yeah, it does make sense the colonists would think that there might genuinely be people on the 13th Colony.

Glad to hear from you!

Who knows if there are any humans left? Maybe there are survivors of the apocalypse...or maybe they'll be attacked by talking apes! (Remember that movie?)
