I saw Platoon for the first time the other day. Man, that movie had a lot of big-time actors in it. To me it seemed kind of jumbled, but maybe that was intentional -- to mirror the hysteria that was Vietnam. It's good, but I would have to say that it's no Private Ryan. I havent seen the other movies this beat for the Oscar, so I can't judge whether it deserved it or not, but I don't think it's one of those great films of a generation. Don't get me wrong, it's good. The acting was meh, I think a lot of that was casting, but of course it was made up for in "shocking imagery."
