Just got back home a bit ago from surgery. It went well.
The hospital was supposed to call on Friday with the arrival time. They called but didn't leave messages. The last instructions I got were to expect an arrival time around 11:00 a.m. and that I couldn't have anything to eat or drink after midnight. I figured I'd get up around 8 and call to confirm.
Edi came in around 8 and woke me up to tell me that they had called. They wanted me there at noon and said I could drink water as late as 9:00 a.m. I asked her to come back with a glass of water at 8:55 and I went back to sleep. I enjoyed my last glass of water and got up not too long after. Then the hospital called back and asked if I could come a little earlier (11:30).
We arrived on time at 11:30. After registering, we went to the surgery waiting room. Not long after, a nurse came to get me and start preparation. I changed, got into my bed, and she started an IV. After the first of the basic prep was done, Edi and the kids came back to wait with me. They were there for the visit with the anesthesiologist and then left.
Eventually, the doctor and the OR nurse came in. Then the nurse anesthetist came in to get the anesthesia started. By the time I was wheeled back to the OR, it was after 1:30. Needless to say, I don't remember much after that.
I woke up sometime after 3 in the recovery unit. When I first woke up, I was not in any pain but was thirsty. The nurse had some water for me. I stayed awake after that and have been awake ever since (not for much longer, though). She gave me some crackers and tea and Edi and the kids came in to say hello. The doctor also stopped by to say that everything went well. They started me with oral pain medication (percocet) and sent me home a little after 4.
I did begin to notice the pain while I was still in the recovery room but it hasn't been bad at all. I just took a second percocet and am going to bed shortly. In fact, I'm lacking motivation to type anymore now. Must be bed time :)
