Holy Shit it's an Update

Well it's been awhile but since I'm back full steam in FFXI I figured I'd better update my status. I started the Corsair job the first week of October (If my memory serves me correctly). I haven't looked back since. Similar to Bard in many ways, the Corsair has the ability to use interesting buffs on the entire party. What's unique to the Corsair though is that the buffs can be significantly enhanced if the proper job that corresponds with the roll is present (Rolls are the name of the Corsair "songs"). The Corsair's downfall, however, is that almost every job ability that can be used by the Corsair involves luck. When a Corsair uses Phantom Roll, the ability that buffs party members, the Corsair will randomly roll a number between 1 and 6. At this point, the Corsair has the option to "Double-Up" or stay at the first number rolled. The objective is to roll the highest number possible without exceeding 12. Anything at or above a 12 is a bust and all party members will lose the buff and the Corsair will receive a debuff depending on the type of roll the Corsair used. Note: Only the Corsair will receive this debuff. None of the party members receive the debuff, they simply lose the buff. Beyond the Corsair's obvious usefulness to parties in giving buffs, the Corsair can also output a decent amount of damage. At lower levels (45ish and below) the damage is extraordinarily high. I seriously believe that the corsair should be nurfed at lower levels. The ability to give the party decent buffs, including a refresh effect at 40, AND being able to match and in some cases out damage a Ranger is overpowered. That being said, the Corsair does lose damage as I continue to level up. I don't think it's necessarily the Corsair losing damage but rather all of the DD classes gaining power and pulling away. In any case, I love the Corsair job and have learned many new things about the game in playing a support job (such as the pains of trying to get my party to stand in certain positions so I can hit them with rolls).

During the beginning of last week I joined a Chains of Promathia static. This turned out to be the best decision of my entire FFXI career (not including pestering Rooks until he gave me an Impact pearl). I’ve played a lot of MMO’s in my life and I can say without any hesitation that FFXI succeeds where other MMO’s fail. No other MMO has a storyline with this much depth. The story of Chains of Promathia is nothing short of epic. It’s like reading Ender’s Game for the first time. You know, you start reading it and then you can’t put it down until you finish the entire book. It’s just that damn good. We recently completed Three Paths and last night we attempted 6-4, the infamous airship BC. This is perhaps the tensest situation I’ve ever been a part of in FFXI. Our run last night was a dry run so no 2 hours and very little consumable were used. I was very impressed with our performance last night. Our dry run, which is our first attempt, we got to Ultima with 20 minutes left and managed to get him down to 30% before we had reraise issues and had to forfeit. I would guess that if we had decided to blow everything we had on Ultima we could have quite possibly beaten the BC on our first run. Unfortunately, we only had time for one run because we started late (my parents aggrod me last night).

Also, I must apologize for missing Dynamis. I had forgotten that my brother had a marching band competition going on last night and I had promised him I would be there. I didn’t get home until 10:15 EST or so and I don’t know my way around Xarcabard so I didn’t want to cause you guys trouble. Yes, I’m a failure and realize my attendance to Dynamis isn’t exactly thorough. Your guys’ generosity and understanding is far more than what I deserve. Any other Dynamis shell would have surely booted me by now. If it’s anything though, I do intend to come more often but yeah, that’s me talking so take what I say with a grain of salt.
