I really should go to bed - more on that momentarily - but, if nothing else, I feel the need to say something about today.
For those who don't know, I work the night shift. Almost to a one, my coworkers were talking about going home to watch the Inauguration. Now, as long as I can remember, the Inauguration has been, "Oh... yeah... Was that today?" I've never seen so many people so excited.
None of that prepared me for what I've been watching on my screen today. Minus a break to drop off paperwork and have lunch - reluctantly - with my sister, I've been watching the CNN/Facebook feed since I got home. More than anything, I am seeing a nation that has hope. Just the sheer joy and enthusiasm is overwhelming. Tomorrow, we will worry about the economy and bills and everything else... Today, we have this, and for one day, I'm watching (and seeing in the Facebook feed) not just our nation, but people worldwide who have such belief.
Yep, Obama's going to make mistakes, and he'll do things that aren't popular, but watching this man who has been standing all day still smiling and waving to everyone who passes on the parade... Well, I've gone through a number of kleenex today.
I keep saying, "Ok, I"m going to bed after X," and then I want to watch the next part. I woke Merrick up with, "We have a new President!"
Tomorrow, we have mundanity, and I have War prep. Today, we have a new President, and I'm seeing hope. Here's to that hope.
