Sim!Hunith and Gratuitous Backstory omg

So after having a little under two and a half hours sleep on Saturday night because of completing stuff for a group meeting that ultimately got rescheduled to today, I gave myself the day off on Sunday. And, in the hours not spent with my father, I played around with my new Hunith sim. I took so many photos I may actually be able to do my first proper Merlin Sims entry!

So that's Hunith, looking distinctly not Caroline Faber-ish but suitably careworn. Onto the story!

A note before I start: The neighbourhood my sims are based in is the Maxis premade "Riverview," but for my purposes, it's going to be called County Camelot, a smallish but thriving riverside city still surrounded by its rural origins. I will also be ignoring how very American the place is.

The Story So Awesome It Doesn't Need A Title

The first time Hunith Emrys arrived at Camelot, the setting sun made her decision- where she and her infant son should escape to- easy. The county central was bustling, but Hunith could easily see the wilderness edging the seemingly endless borders, refusing to leave completely.

She couldn't afford to move from Ealdor just yet, despite her deep desire to leave and forget her past. Forget Merlin's father.

She scrounged together her savings, taking every extra job she could while juggling her single mother responsibilties. She bought a plot in Camelot's rural area, a dilapidated old stone house that backed directly onto pastures of crops. Many months and numerous loans later, it became the home she'd been dreaming of. Colours abounded, and the smell of hay and summer hung on the air.

It had taken so long, but finally the sale of their current house was completed and it was time to move in.

She couldn't wait to show Merlin his new room, which she spent an age decorating to look like a glade in a woodland. As a girl, Hunith had spent as much time sleeping outside as in and had enjoyed every moment; she wanted Merlin to have the same love of nature. She could admit, though, that she might've gone slightly overboard.

For herself, Hunith loved the living area the most. All browns and greens, many would call it drab, but it reminded Hunith of the tiny cottage she'd grown up in and... would never see again.

When they arrived, somewhat ragged from the long bus ride from Ealdor, Hunith had a fresh burst of enthusiasm. She swung Merlin into the air, laughing.

Bringing him back to her chest, Hunith asked him whether he liked Camelot. Merlin, who could hardly talk yet, picked up on her tone and smiled, lisping out a, "Yes." She cuddled him closer, unable to shake her worry that their life would still not be easy.

Time passed. Merlin grew up confidently and healthily, eating,

playing,

and exploring.

Hunith, on the other hand, would wake up early each morning, worrying about their finances and her inability to get a job, other than occasional temp work at various offices.

It wasn't all bad. When she was filing at the police headquarters, Hunith was sure she'd seen the Commissioner, Uther Pendragon, and when she'd stood in at the hospital reception, she'd met a nice surgeon in the lunch room called Gaius.

That, and Merlin's second birthday was so very close.

Hunith came home late on the day, bearing a cake box she only opened once the babysitter was gone. This was a moment for her son and her alone.

She took Merlin to the cake, telling him that afterwards she had a surprise for him. He grinned at her before turning his attention to the cake. They blew out the candles together.

They travelled by taxi until they arrived at the only path to where Hunith wanted Merlin to see. As she walked, she could hear Merlin's soft breaths and her heart swelled within her chest.

Gaius, on one of Hunith's days working at the hospital, had mentioned the place in passing: The Standing Stones. No one in Camelot knew who put the stones there, nor why, but it was said to be a beautiful, perhaps even magical, place.

Merlin wasn't really interested in this surprise present, but Hunith felt calmer than she had in a long while. Perhaps the present had never been for Merlin.

She turned away to begin the long walk back to home and Merlin's new teddy bear, a funny little brown thing called Bealucræft. She would take Merlin back to the stones when he was older.

The next day, Hunith was convinced the sun shone more brightly.

Oh yes. My attempt at a serious sims story. It may or may not have been simply me being like, "Wow, the lighting! The scenery! The first house I built and decorated!!!" Yeah, I had way too much fun doing this.
