Thanks for having me, Lucienne! And happy After-Valentines, everyone!
Stoking the fire in a relationship is sometimes a bit of work, perhaps even an afterthought if we’re working all day, running the kids around, or doing the umpteen million things that have to get done in our busy lives. But I’d like to take a page out of my friend’s book of life. She was my roomie at one of last year’s conferences. Married to her high school sweetheart, her kids are now finishing up college and starting their own lives. We were gabbing in the room one night, and her phone kept buzzing with text messages from her husband. And me, I’m wondering what the heck he could be saying that made her smile so much, because jeez, they’ve been married forever. What could they possibly have to say? Maybe he was texting to find out what leftovers he should be using up out of the fridge or where he’d left the remote. But she’d get this...look, sort of dreamy. I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had to ask. And she revealed that he was sending her sex texts! Oh my God! I’ve since heard it referred to as sexting. Flirty little naughty text messages. Wow. I found this utterly romantic. He missed her! With the kids starting their own lives, this couple is finding a resurgence in their love life. It even brought a tear to my eye, it was just so darn sweet. Not to mention sexy.
Being a romance writer, it started me thinking about all the different things couples can do to bring something fresh to the relationship. I know, some people say having their SO surprise them with doing some housework is foreplay, but I think I’ll try something a little more spicy. Like going out to dinner with friends and sending him naughty text messages across the dinner table. Getting his motor all revved up before we even get home. Or how about a little role play, like arriving at a bar separately and pretending we don’t know each, and having him hit on me. Everyone around you thinks it’s a pick up! Okay, be it TMI or not, I played this little game with my husband, and it made me breathless. I fell into the role, and it actually felt real. And oh so fun. Or how about renting a motel room right near his workplace and calling him to come over for a quickie at lunch. Or skip the text messaging I mentioned earlier and go right to the phone call, maybe while he’s driving home and all he can do is listen to you talk naughty. He’ll be crazy by the time he gets home. Of course, if you’ve got kids, maybe you should send them to the sitter for the evening. Ooh, the phone works really well if one of you is on a business trip. As you can see, a lot of this is fantasy, talking, bantering, especially when you’re apart. Sometimes it’s even reading a passage out of an erotic romance. In my upcoming May 2010 release,
Hers for the Evening, the second book in my Courtesans Tales, my heroine Courtney has a very different way of spicing things up. As the disclaimer goes on those fantastic stunts you see on TV, don’t try this one at home! But it was fun to write, and hopefully you’ll have fun reading it.
I’d love to hear some of your tips for spicing things up. Post a comment to be entered in my drawing for an autographed copy of my latest release with Jaci Burton, Joey Hill, and Denise Rossetti,
Laced With Desire. Please try out an
