And glide through life without a meaning
On trails torn up between clouds and turf
I've wished for you for what it's worth
And I want to visit on the wind

“What do you think you're doing?"

Peter pulled his hand back from the curious little figures on the desk and turned to face the little girl on the bed.

"Can't you talk?"

"Of course I can talk! I'm Peter Pan!" And with that, Peter flew around the room (a loop-di-loop here and there) before he landed softly at the foot of the bed. "And you are?"

"Amelia Pond," she said, carefully drawing out each syllable.

Curious, thought Peter, as Amelia blinked up at him, looking thoroughly unimpressed by his ability to fly. She looked to where he had been hovering for a good ten minutes or so, before considering him with an amused stare. “So you like dolls, Peter?”

Peter felt his face burn at the question. “I don’t like dolls!” He replied vehemently, and pulled a face for good measure. “I was just interested because they’re the people from your stories. That’s supposed to be you and the Doctor, right?”

Peter expected her to ask about how he knew the stories-maybe even swat him after-but just like before, she only blinked up at him in response. He wondered if anything surprised Amelia Pond.

"A magic blue police box that can go to the moon, fish sticks and custard, a doctor who's not a doctor,” Peter continued, his dirty fingers leaving streaks of black as he picked at the blue quilt. “I've never heard those types of stories before."

"They're not stories," Amelia paused, tucking a strand of fiery red hair behind an ear. "Well, not for long. I'm gonna do all of that, go on all kinds of adventures with the Doctor."

"Adventures, you say?" Peter looked back at Amelia with a grin, his embarrassment long forgotten. "You like adventures?"

"Of course!" She answered before suddenly narrowing her eyes at Peter. "What, did you think that just because I'm a girl, I don't? And besides, why were you eavesdropping on my stories? Who said you could do that anyway?"

Ignoring Amelia's questions, he reached for her hand and began pulling her to the window. "If it's adventure you want, I could help you with that."

"And how exactly do you think you can help?"

Peter pulled back the lace curtains and pointed to a star blinking at them from its place in the sky. "Neverland, Amelia. We've got mermaids, volcanoes, Indians-anything you can think of!"

"Pirates?" Amelia asked jokingly, her laughter dying down as Peter nodded. She blinked up at him widely. "Really?"

"Yes! Not as many around since we beat that old codfish Hook, but Smee and the others who survived still sail the Jolly Roger.”

Amelia looked from the still blinking star to the leaf-covered boy she had found wandering around her room a few minutes ago. "What about the Doctor?"

"Who?" Peter looked back from his perch on her window sill, the leaves that clothed him flapped gently in the breeze.

"The Doctor, Peter." Amelia looked at him, irritated. She pulled her hand out of his grasp and padded back to the bed. "I can't leave or else I won't be here when he comes back."

"I can take you for a quick pop over to Neverland and it won't be more than five minutes here in your world," Peter fibbed. To be honest, he had no plans of letting Amelia go that easily. After showing her the mermaids, he would take her to the new Lost Boys, then the volcanoes, bring her to see the Indian camp or the Jolly Roger, trek the jungles...everything and anything he could think of until she's forgotten life outside Neverland. Because no one knew as well as Peter that little girls dressed in silly nighties with a love for adventure and stories only come once in a lifetime. He looked at Amelia Pond, dressed in her polka-dotted nightie and with hair the color of Neverland's flowers, and considered the idea of second chances.

Pushing away thoughts about thimbles and kisses for the moment, Peter pulled back from the window and followed Amelia back inside the room. "How long will it be until he comes back?"

"Five minutes," she whispered. By then the Doctor's "five minutes" had stretched to three weeks, two days, and six minutes.

Peter sensed the change in her before pulling out a small pouch that rustled softly when he dropped it on her lap. Amelia peeked inside and found it to be full of gold, shimmering powder. She dipped a finger in the pouch and rubbed the powder between her fingers.

"Pixie dust," Peter said by way of an explanation. He sat by her on the bed and took some of the dust into his hands. "I'm not the Doctor and I don't have a magic blue police box, but I can take you with me to Neverland where you can have all the adventures you'll ever want. You and I can fly there right now."

”No waiting, no five minutes?" Amelia asked. He couldn't help but think that she had never looked as small as she did at that moment.

"No five minutes. A happy thought and some pixie dust are all you need to go with me." She didn't resist when Peter pulled her back on her feet and led them again to the open window. "Neverland's already waiting for you, Amelia. Stay or go-it's all up to you now."
