In a way, I feel almost obligated to rec this, but I would do it even if it wasn't by lani.

Dan comes to terms with the fact that he's "second best" & learns that, no, age aint nothin' but a number, but it can still make all the difference.
This is the kind of fic I'd find myself reading once or twice or more, because each time I look over it (especially the ending) a new feeling builds up & a new thread is formed.
And for a first fic, this is supreme. If for nothing else, remember how you felt after posting your first piece & how nervous you were about feedback. To me (all biases aside) it deserves more than it's received.
