Wendy got a c-section at 4:07pm on April 17, 2008. I was scared half to death, but everything turned out ok, and I even got to see Wendy's internal organs, so that was really cool. Joseph's a bit on the small side right now, at 5 lbs 8oz, but he's really really cute (even if his teenage self will likely not appreciate me calling him that). He had a small lung issue, but 24 hours on oxygen fixed that. Now the only problem is that he doesn't eat very well and spits up a bit much, so they've got him on a feeding tube and he has an IV that they're in the process of weening him off of. I'm talking about all of this stuff as though it's nothing, even though not that long ago (history-wise) I might well have lost not only my son, but my wife as well. Modern medicine is absolutely amazing.
After the surgery, Wendy went on a magnesium sulfate drip for 24 hours. She got off of it yesterday at around 5pm and started attempting to nurse at 9pm. Joseph's not very good at it yet, but we've been trying every 3 hours since 9 and we'll keep at it. Wendy's pumping, too, and the nurses take the colostrum we collect and mix it into the formula for Joseph. I am so amazed by the kindness and care of all of the staff at this hospital. I'm going to sleep for an hour or two now.
