Fandom: Final Fantasy IX
Rating: PG
Characters: Zidane, Eiko, Amarant, Vivi, Quina
Summary: "Zidane get yummy-yummies?"

"Keep running, keep running!"

"But--" Eiko squeaked as a fire spell nearly hit her, crashing into the crenellation next to her with a bang and leaving a nice, big hole. "Oooo, wait for me you jerk!"

Running along the tops of the crenellation, Zidane didn't slow down, but in fact sped up. The end of the wall was coming up. "Zidane!" Eiko cried, pointing. They weren't going to have anywhere else left to go! "Keep running!" Zidane instructed.

"But--!"

Another fire spell crashed behind them leaving a charred pit in the walkway of the curtain wall. Eiko kept running. Zidane reached the end of the wall first--and leaped. Scrambling after him, Eiko clambered up into a notch in the battlements and jumped as well. A small airship--airboat really--rose to catch her, Zidane already standing on the deck. She landed on Vivi and they both went down in a confusing mess of clothes and limbs.

There was a roar as the airship rose level with the top of the wall. A sphinx--stone guardian brought to life by not-so-nice ancient magic--growled and began to flap its wings, intent on following. From the shadows of the captain's box a hulking form stepped forward--three pinwheels effectively distracted the guardian, keeping it stationiary, while Eiko pulled herself and Vivi to their feet. Fixing his hat, the mage waited the tiniest moment before letting fly a thundaga spell. The guardian cracked down the middle and crumbled--right along with the wall beneath it.

As the airship calmly flew away Eiko dusted off the knees of her jumper and Amarant returned to his post leaning against the captain's box, Quina flying them all back towards Alexandria. They'd be stopping at Lindblum and Black Mage Village on the way of course to drop off the brats, but Amarant felt no compulsion to be awake for that. Leaning back he let his head drop forward onto his chest, his hair obscuring his face and closed his eyes.

"Zidane get yummy-yummies?" Quina asked, turning the helm of the airship lazily. "You bet!" Zidane replied easily and reached into his back pocket. His face froze. Immediately he patted his vest all over, slapping at his chest, panic starting to rise in his face.

"Y-you didn't drop it did you, Zidane?" Vivi asked hesitantly. That wouldn't be good... "You lost it!?" Eiko shrieked, pausing in dusting off the back of Vivi's coat. Zidane went wide-eyed and opened his mouth--

"It's right here!" He pulled a pretty, jeweled flower out of Amarant's ear. "...Any more party tricks you're walking back," Amarant grunted, not even opening his eyes. Eiko glared. "Not funny!"

"No yummies?" Quina asked, shaking his/er head at the flower. Vivi didn't seem to mind the joke at least and crowded forward to look at the thing. Stone artfully cut into the shape of a rose--it could have almost been organic. If it weren't for the colors--luminescent and captivating in a way the hues of living flowers weren't--it would have been easily mistaken for so. "You're really going to give this to Dag--I mean Queen Garnet, Zidane?" The black mage asked.

"Of course he is! It's so romantic," Eiko exclaimed, elbowing in next to Vivi to get a good look too. "We went through a lot of trouble to get this!"

Zidane nodded. "Just don't tell Dagger--"

"Because it's a surprise!" Eiko finished and giggled slightly, excited.

"...Messed up pretty badly, hunh," Amarant said suddenly. Everyone laughed as Zidane leapt back defensively. "It was a compliment--" He began.

"You not say crab dish look like soufflé as compliment to chef," Quina pointed out sagely, wagging his/er head. "Quina has a point..." Vivi admitted, tugging on his hat. Eiko poked Zidane in the chest. "How could you even say such a thing to her!? Talk about insensitive!"

"...Heard she locked you out," Amarant mumbled, shoulders shaking the tiniest bit. Zidane rolled his eyes slightly. "She did not! ...Okay she did. Shut up! This thing's going to fix it all!"

He held up the flower to catch the rays of the sun, letting it shine prettily. "...Better hope so." Amarant shifted slightly, "...idiot."

"Yea, that was pretty stupid of him," Eiko agreed, nodding to herself. Vivi just shook his head.

"I said I liked it! It just--came out wrong!" Zidane argued. Silence enveloped the airship.

"Zidane stupid."

"Yep."

"Y-yea..."

"...Dumbass..."

"...Alright! Alright! It was stupid of me to comment on my eight months pregnant wife's figure," Zidane admitted, throwing up his hands. "Sheesh, can't a guy get some sympathy?!"

"..."

Laughter filled the deck as Zidane put his face in his palm. Apparently not.
