Title: After
Fandom: Final Fantasy III
Rating: PG
Characters: Luneth, Refia, Arc, Ingus
Summary: "I can feel it. It's here."

"You just don't get it!" And he tossed the dagger end over end, catching the hilt as it came back out of a pretty arc. Luneth waited, idle fingers playing with his weapon in feats of mini-acrobatics as he watched the monster. Without warning he darted in and struck--down went the Lesser Demon. He rolled its form over into the lava. No need to attract attention from other monsters around with the stench of a dead beast.

"No, I don't get it. You're not making any sense!" Refia snapped as Arc shook his head in agreement. "Pray tell how exploring this whole maze will lead to anything more than our unfortunate deaths," Ingus demanded in his quiet, inexorably commanding tone. It was a tone to which appeasement should be swiftly delivered at all times. Personally Luneth thought of it as Ingus's Stick Up His Ass tone; something he'd shared loudly and as often as possible with the others as well as Ingus. He was pretty sure he had a permanent bruise from the punch he'd gotten that one time for his cheek.

"How many crystals have we encountered so far on our little happy fun trip?" Luneth asked, making sure to speak slowly in clear, stressed syllables. And roll his eyes a bit. Just to show his point here of course. Had nothing to do with the intelligence of the others...

"Three!" Refia growled. "Yes, the Wind, Fire and Water crystals," Arc expanded. "Yes," Luneth agreed. "And how many elements--pray tell Great And Mighty Sir Ingus--are there?"

"Four," Ingus ground out, but slowed as--yes, that was indeed comprehension!--stole across his face. The others quickly followed. "You think it's here? The Earth Crystal?" Ingus asked quietly.

Luneth put his hands behind his head and nodded. "I can feel it. It's here," he said, all mockery aside. "It's not in Syrcus with Xande?" Arc questioned sharply, quick as ever with the different possibilities of the situation. Luneth shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I feel it," he repeated.

Refia, unnaturally quiet, closed her eyes for a moment, thoughtful. "This warmth--I've felt it since we came into this place," she said, placing a hand over her heart. Ingus and Arc looked at her with a start--it was obvious they'd felt the same thing. "I'd thought it was just the heat of the lava, but..." Refia admitted sheepishly.

Luneth shook his head. At any other time except one so serious that comment would have called for serious mocking--he'd have to remember to do it later. After they'd stopped Xande. Because there was going to be an after. He refused to allow there not to be one. "It's the crystal," he said firmly and the other three nodded. Now that they knew what the feeling was...they were sure too.

"We're almost there...just a little longer," Refia murmured. "Time to go see if we can get some more funny hats," Luneth joked--they'd all had more than adverse reactions to the hats that came with some of the job classes. The other three grinned--Arc tugging a little self-consciously on his black mage hat--and they set off. One more crystal to free and then it was on to Xande.

None of them would accept defeat. There would be an after. They swore it.
