Saturday September 25th our son was born. His strategic measures were 3860g and 51cm.
I went to the hospital on Friday, and I was given three small doses of the medicine that is used to induce labours. I had one quarter of a pill every four hours. That didn't do the trick, and they sent me home for the night. I could have stayed in the hospital but you know hospital beds... On Saturday morning I was back, and they increased the dosage to a half a pill. After the second dose things started to happen. At 1pm I started having regular contractions but was able to handle them. Two hours later it started being too much. I was examined and sent to the delivery room. When I got there I was 8cm open, and the baby was born at 5.26pm. I didn't have any other anesthesia but laughing gas. While I was pushing I didn't feel much like laughing though...
He has a condition called congenital clubfoot on his right foot. He already got a plaster to it last Tuesday. Now we will go to the hospital every Tuesday to have it replastered for about 2-3 months and then his foot will be operated. It will never be as good as a healthy one, but he should be able to walk and run just like any other kid. I cried about it at first but now I've come to terms with it. It is treatable, and there are so many more severe conditions than this one.
On Tuesday his bilirubin level went sky high up to 370, and 400 is the level of blood transfusion. The baby had to stay almost two days under special fluorscent lights away from me. I cried almost the whole time, maybe it was just too much after seeing a newborn's leg being plastered. I was able to feed him and change him but even when I heard him cry I couldn't go and take him to my arms because he had to stay under the lights. Fortunately it worked and we were able to come home on Thursday evening.
Now things pretty much go around the kiddies. Cub is such an enthusiastic big sister. So far things have been well. I try to give her as much attention as I can so that she won't feel left out. Sleeping is a luxury, but it'll pass. At least when both of them have moved out.
