wes has been without a car for the past 1.5 months. some for-no-special-reason flowers he brought home from the metro last night.
2 weeks was the sentence. after wes broke his nose, his doctor recommended staying away from any strenous activity for 2 weeks. for anyone building muscle, 2 weeks without continued weight lifting is enough to start dropping both lbs and heft. not to say that wes and i are super buff or anything, but i consider 2 weeks also long enough to get knocked off the ole exercise routine. :p
it's been slowly happening ever since i sprained my wrist back in august. the weekly 4-5 visits to the gym tapered off to 3 or less, and the effort i exerted during my sets became lighter and lighter to nil when i realized that the sharp pain shooting through my left wrist wasn't going away anytime soon. and after hurting my left knee AND re-hurting my wrist after the MS150 ride, i took yet another break. my body parts needed the rest, but i dreaded the long break. i've lost 3 lbs so far.
a month ago the aches subsided, and i started ramping up with the weights and running again. running was going well, lifting, not so well. pretty frustrating having to decrease the weights knowing i used to lift more and having to still go easy on my wrist. my knee was faring better, so i put more effort into cardio and finally got up to running a 9-10 minute mile for 3 miles at a time.
OF COURSE i had to freaking hurt myself again!!! 2 weeks ago singe went to work out with me and as usual, he spent most of his time pointing out my form flaws. so i increased my running cadence, shuffling like a mad fiend. after finishing half a mile at 7mph, a jolt of pain shot up my my right knee, and now i'm back to R.I.C.E. again. curses!!! what's bad about this latest injury is that my knee acts completey fine until 3-4 hours of walking. then suddenly i'm hobbling like a lame duck and can barely put pressure on my knee. i didn't even know i had hurt it that badly and attempted running on it again. bad idea. le sigh...
while wes forfeited his twice a week 4 hour vball ritual and working out at the gym, i noticed a rather noticeable change in his demeanor. wes had always been rather happy go lucky, usually in a good mood 99% of the time. mysteriously his temperament became so crabby and terse that it lead me to believe the breakage of his nose had turned him to the dark side! :O after giving it some thought, he pinned it to not being active. sure enough, after finally working out this past saturday, wes was miraculously back to normal. pleasant, mellow, and loving. :p after 2 whole weeks of crabtastic antics, it can't have geen a coincidence! myself? i've personally noticed increased feelings of the old antsiness and depression creeping up. i can't wait until my body heals! must gobble protein and fruit in the meantime. :p
