So, me and my grandfather have this "thing" in which we go to the local historical museums once in awhile. Different one each time (which is becoming problematic as we're starting to run out of them). Today we visited the newly reopened Medieval Museum.

And it sorta rocked?

Very educational and some great exhibitions. I especially liked the models of Old Town back in the days when it was New Town and the Gallows Hill. Yes, I can be a bit morbid at times. This should surprise no one. Though I had to stop reading the description of the various ways in which the Law could get you Killed. Ye gods, but people could be brutally inventive back in the good ol' days.

Grandfather, on the other hand, hovered in the church section for quite some time. It was interesting to see how they were basically the historical equivalent of hospitals. The to-scale model of a monastery's herb garden was lovely.

One thing I noted, however, was the rather blatant patriotism and anti-danish sentiment found in some of the texts. This being about medieval Sweden I suppose it's just par for the course, but. Still. Awkward.

I think I must visit a danish museum covering the same period some day, just to see the other end of the spectrum. It will almost certainly be a very refreshing experience.
