The New Decade.

Well well. With all of the usual stuff going on in my life, I was suddenly made aware of the fact that a new decade was beginning.
Now, for me, I have always measured decades in terms of music. And almost every decade every starting in this last century has had a new style or theme, a Coherent definite kind of music tyed to the decade, EXCEPT--(in my opinion) 1900-1909 and 2000-2009! Think about it! What style of american music comes to mind when you think about the years 1900-1909? Nothing! Dick Clark, anyone? NO!!!
I think 1910 to 1919 might have been dixieland, the 20's were definitely the music tyed to the flappers, the charleston, the 30's were mostly big band, the same for the 40's, (hmmmm.) the 50's was greaser rock rockabilly music, the 60's were hippie ass stuff, the 70's were disco, the 80's was new wave/pop, 90's was supposedly the "grunge" style. and 2000-2009? Rap, possibly? Crappy Pop? For me, like the 1900's, there is no definitive style. HMM A definite pattern of nothingness. Am I wrong?
I definitely felt it was a decade of no good style or themes. There were only a few good songs to come out of this decade, and most of those were taken from the undicovered indie bands that offered their music free at SXSW. I just hope we get a clear good style of music, because I am just about ready to give it up and continue to collect tunes from the glorious past.
