Deaf and Reberf

I sort-of won a pumpkin-carving contest at work (being only 1 of 2 entries, whereas 8+ had signed up, and in the end both entries were simply given the same prize), and have used the prize ($20 gift card) to buy a few bags of plain M&M's and have been munching on them for the past week. I think I may actually be tired of chocolate.

I came home with a bag of really fat green seedless grapes (which are @ Wally World for $1/lb, btw) ...which I just realized I left sitting on the counter overnight... and when I came home from the store I gave one to the pup. He didn't know what to do with it, and just set it down on the ground, so I knelt next to him and as he watched, I put one in my mouth and chewed it. He paused for a second, and went back over to it and spent the next 5 minutes trying to figure out how to eat it as I took the groceries inside. It is pretty tough, I must admit, if your teeth are spaced that far apart and are pretty much all sharp.

So, in the spirit of restarting the journal, I've changed the front-end design with a suitable free version, modified the tagline with the "bleatings" phrase (more familiarly used with "beatings"), and screwed around briefly with the user info section. I guess I'll actually have to start making titles for entries now =P

I've been watching the repackaging of an old anime favorite, now called Dragonball Z Kai.. which has a new theme song, end song, commercial transitions, and fan-service intros/outros -- but it's pretty much the same show. One thing that caught my eye was that some of the sound mastering and such, as listed in the credits, was done in Dallas, but the name of the company is what caught my eye.. "Okratron 5000" =) Also, the name Colleen Clinkenbeard is kinda funny.

At my last job, there were idle moments as long as 3 hours at a time (during which we were still paid), and we were largely left to our own devices to pass it quickly. One game for which we frequently opted is to "word mine" a word or phrase, that is, to discover as many words as possible that can be made with only the letters (and their frequency) as the word/phrase offered. I'm pretty good at it, and have full confidence that I could beat you at it if we tried. Any of you. We'll try it sometime. The cow-orkers and I would also read the newspaper to each other and even the "Matter of Record" section of the TRN because that was the best place to find really weird names at which point we'd look at each other, grin, and scramble for blank paper to start mining that name. "Colleen Clinkenbeard" would have been a perfect one to try =) I recently also saw the name, "Benedict Cumberbatch" and thought it was so good I actually called up to them (as the word miner cow-orkers are still there although I amn't) and told them, at which they scrambled for paper.

I've begun a new computer-file collection these days -- television pilot episodes. Several of them I've never seen before and have gotten hooked on now. One of them is "Defenders" .. a law show that's pretty quick-paced, funny, and stars two of my favorite small-time actors: Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell. It got me hooked partially because the first couple episodes had this super-hot lawyer woman that I wanted to see more of, but after looking her up on IMDB, turned out she was only in the first 3 eps or so, but by then the hook'd sunk.

Right now I'm watching "Chuck" starring actor-unknowns who could easily pass for stunt doubles for Jimmy Fallon and Seth Green. There's a pretty hot secret agent woman who could double for Maurine McCormick (Marsha Brady), but she's got this weird buck-tooth thing going that's really distracting. There's also the authentic version of the guy from Firefly who owns the gun named Vera, who is supposed to be a serious character but instead just reminds me of the Firefly guy.

There is a music video for a Japanese girl-group SKE48, called, 1! 2! 3! 4! Yoroshiku that I think is just the thing of the moment and have watched it perhaps 30+ times. There are times I think I stopped growing upstairs at around 14 but have otherwise been aging normally =P Let's see if this embed works.. it's just a preview, but I've got the full version (which seems to gets taken down shortly after appearing online in full)..
