It has been an Internet-eternity since I last posted, but I met an LJ-friend I'd known for quite some years now from my own city and had never met in person (morrigan617), in person yesterdoodle at a Halloween party. We chatted briefly amiably, and it was good to meet her in person for once. It was at a friend-of-a-friend's house, and quickly became clear that this wasn't the calibre of crowd (and not necessarily in a bad way) that most of the friend's gatherings were comprised of.

Our usual gatherings have generally been the type that could tell you at length the differences between orthodox, anglican and catholic and would have found my costume (a wretched pun, I admit) a far bit more entertaining.

I wore a red plastic fireman's helmet ($1 at the dollar store, picked up in early summer implicitly for this purpose) and a gold bar made out of gold posterboard ($1.50, purchased that day) -- I was a "wise man from afar" with "afar" pronounced as one from Texas might say, "a fire." The humor was not as well received as I had envisioned. I had stolen the idea from a dude who wore it to a church costume party that I attended when I was about 10, and have remembered it fondly since then. Oh well.

I did greatly enjoy the house it was in, as well as the host's costume (and although his lightning bolt scar was on the wrong side of his forehead, I opted not to mention it). On my way out (having to leave early to sleep to get up for a 330am shift) I met a gentleman who called himself Dax who had an impressive handshake. I also neglected to mention that Dax is the name of a female Star Trek character, and perhaps glad that I didn't mention that also because (a) I might have gotten my jaw knocked loose by the dude's ripped biceps, and (b) later realized Dax may actually just be the symbiont organism that Jadzia from DS9 hosted, with Dax being an as-it-were surname the host adopted once uniting with the organism.

Today I visited the parents after work, and sorted out loose playing cards into well over 15 complete decks, all while watching more episodes of didn't-know-she-was-preggers shows on TLC than I ever care to see again. Apparently there was a marathon going, and I didn't have control of the remote. I was too engrossed in making sure there were one of each suit per number to bother with it much.

In regard to "enjoying the house it was in" it might be better known that whenever my father and I visit estate sales here, I always film a walkthrough of the interior of the house because I find a bit nerdy joy in seeing the peculiar shapes of the insides of local homes, with weird steps down into a living room pit, or oddball layouts as if addons had been built onto other addons, and such as that. The living room of this particular abode was peculiar in a good way -- it had one GIANT wall in the living room that sloped down to the front of the house, which in my variety of interior design would have been devoted to multiple digital projectors for some superior x360-vs-x360 multiplayer tournaments side by side, enabling some wicked screenwatching opportunities.

Anyhow, hello again.
