Prince at the North Sea Jazz Festival July 9th 2011

Jul 10, 2011 22:29

I went to see Prince in concert. He had the night shift at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Well it was technically a morning concert, because he started at 2 am and finished at 4 am. I was back home at 5 am and enjoyed a lovely sunrise.

He wasn't invited to participate at the festival, but asked if he could join and off course they said yes.  He gave a concert for each of the three nights of the festival.
I went the second night, which turned out to be lucky for me, because the first night had some problems. The sound was very loud, so loud that a lot of people left because of it. Prince was deliberating with the sound guy during the concert. He apologized for the bad sound and lighting during the concert I attended. I found it still a tad too loud, but I brought my wax earplugs. My ears were thankful for that, because there was no ringing in my ears.

There were a lot of hardcore fans, who parked their bums for the entrance 12 hours before the concert actually started. I arrived 3 hours before the start and still stood 8 metres from the podium.
It was a great concert. I heard a couple complains, because he didn't do his greatest hits. I didn't mind, because as far as I'm concerned he can sing the phone book and it still will turn out great.
The only remarks I have:
-he did a lot of covers,
-his ( gorgeous)  back up singer sang two whole songs,

-Seal  was politely relieved of the singing duty by Prince with a "Thank you brother" after singing one verse. He was off key and didn't know the lyrics.
-I heard Prince played a lot of funk yesterday and sadly there was a lot of rock and too little FUNK today!
Best songs of the night were "The love we make" with a fantastic guitar solo and "Baby I'm a star" which brought down the house.

Prince also made this remark to the audience members, who were recording the show with their camera's:
‘Put your camera down and participate!’, nice to know I'm not the only one who has this opinion.

Here is a piece of heaven: "The love we make" (not mine ;) )
