Permissions;

Fourthwalling; Sure, just don't expect him to believe you. Or if you know anything too specific... not attack you. :|b

Threadjacking; It's usually fine, though if it's in the middle of SRS BSNSS plot stuff, I'd like a head's up first.

Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?; Sure, though if it's a shapeshift or body swap, I'd like to know before hand. Also, provocation of any kind will most likely get you an answering provocation (read: assault) unless otherwise noted. Vanitas is always up for a fight.

Can I mindread/use telepathy on him?; Of course! He has no defenses against that, though the character might wish they hadn't; his thoughts are pure evil 99.9% of the time. And for reference, I typically put them in brackets.

Maim/Harm/Serious Injury; Again, I'm definitely open to this, though I'd need to plot it out with the other player first. Or at least get notified and agree to it a few tags prior to.

Killing/Death; This will happen eventually, but it'll definitely take some major plotting.

Hugging/Kissing/Other Non-Violent Physical Contact; SUICIDE IS NOT THE ANSWER You can try? Vanitas keeps his distance, so even getting an opportunity to put a hand on his shoulder would be very rare.

Pairings; Why would you even. :| But seriously, he's zero interested in romance, friendship, or even one-night-stands since he despises bonds of any kind, and that probably extends to the physical. Unless there's some crazy curse he's hit with, the chances of this happening are pretty much nil, and it'd abruptly end after the curse lost it's effect.

Kinks; Possessing others χ-Blade.

New!CHARACTER TIMELINE;

Basically, since the Birth By Sleep novels have added supplimentary material, specifically concerning Vanitas' background, I've added this section to make it easier for people to see what I'm accepting, tweaking to my own headcanon, or completely omitting.

Four years before Birth By Sleep - Vanitas was created from the darkness of Ventus' heart. Initially, he was "faceless", meaning his features were undefined, and his skin was black. He looked similar to a humanoid Heartless, but instead of yellow, his eyes were red. In terms of personality, as a newborn he was still malleable, and it was difficult for him to differentiate between Ventus and himself, including his fears ect. However, he was able to summon his Keyblade immediately, and successfully defeated the Heartless Xehanort summoned around him.

Upon seeing Ventus' unconscious body, though, he was shocked and sad at the sight. But this only lasted a few seconds, before he became aware that this was not him anymore. This was his "shell", the weak body that had given up and couldn't even defend itself. He was different from that person; and in this moment, he gained his individuality, as well as a growing contempt for Ventus. This was also where the first Unversed came into being, born out of Vanitas' strong emotions. At first, he didn't know what to make of the creature. And after studying it for a few moments, he destroyed it out of fear (of what he didn't understand). From there, the self-aware questions of "What am I?", "Why was I created?" formed, and were posed to his Master. And Xehanort explained.

Not long after, Master Xehanort took Ventus to Destiny Islands, where his heart was healed by Sora's own. At that exact moment, Vanitas felt this connection take place. There was enough bleed-over of Light from Sora's heart that it traveled through their connection to Vanitas' own, with painful results. The Light conflicted with his heart, and nearly debilitated him before he could muster the will to fight back and drive it away. When the pain faded, though, he found that he'd gained a normal appearance--Sora's appearance--from the connection.

A newly-healed Ventus was brought back to the Keyblade Graveyard to see Vanitas. Though his heart had mended, his conscious hadn't returned, causing him walk around in the zombie-like state we see in other flashbacks. Immediately after laying eyes on him, Vanitas was filled with such rage that he attacked Ventus, knocking him to the ground, and proceeded to kick him while summoning his weapon. He was stopped by Xehanort, who explained that Ventus still had a purpose to fulfill. Vanitas, though, was disgusted by his "other"'s mere presence, and declared that if Ventus stayed, Vanitas wouldn't be able to control his urges to hurt or kill him.

Seeing he had no other choice, Xehanort sent Ventus away to Master Eraqus to learn from him, instead. And with Ventus gone, Xehanort focused his effort on Vanitas' training. It was difficult and brutal, leaving Vanitas exhausted and in pain from injuries at every day's end. At times he hated it, and thought about escaping, but it was making him stronger. With the pain came progress, though it was slow at first.

Around the same time, Ventus became "aware" again, and began interacting with Terra and Aqua. Suddenly, Vanitas found himself assaulted by new emotions. Happiness, affection, trust. Belonging. They were extremely confusing to Vanitas, who couldn't identify them at first. But while they were there, they made him feel good, like he'd discovered something that had been missing. Unfortunately, that feeling only lasted for so long, until it was gone... and left him feeling empty and scarred. The longer this went on, the more resentful and envious of Ventus he became, after he'd identified that it was his other half who was sending these feelings to him. Here he was, going through absolute hell every day, and Ventus was somewhere out of his reach, having the time of his life. It frustrated him, and perhaps even made him feel lonely. For the first time, he secretly questioned his Master's wisdom in separating them to begin with, and began to realize that he was not whole. He was half, and that frightened him. Moreover, Xehanort was not his friend, by any means--he'd destroy him if he failed. If he wanted to survive, he could only rely on himself for strength.

Burying his doubts and turning his feelings of loneliness into anger and hatred, he trained more fiercely than before, pushing himself to the very edge of the limits of his body. Meanwhile, he monitored Ventus' feelings and studied them, gaining insight into the other's daily life and the people he cared about. Part of him still wished to experience these things first-hand, but the more he learned, the more he discovered the vulnerabilities in such feelings. Especially friendship; there was too much room for hurt, should your trust be broken.

Ultimately, Vanitas rejected this as an option. The positive feelings stopped making him feel good, and only annoyed him more that he couldn't shut them off. Slowly, his heart grew completely cold and indifferent to them, building his tolerance for emotional pain like he now tolerated physical.

With this mastery over his emotions, came mastery over the Unversed. He learned to control their creation, instead of them being a random byproduct of strong emotion, as well as the quantity he could pull at any certain time. He could create larger, more complex Unversed. What was more: they all obeyed his will.

He even learned to create Unversed using other people's negativity, as well. This took a little more concentration and provocation, but like everything else he was a quick study. In the process, he became very good at manipulating others into producing the right emotions. And found that he liked the control and feeling of superiority it gave him.

Now, he could produce his own version of "positive" feelings through the pain and misery of others. He no longer needed Ventus to provide them for him, and felt no guilt in what he was doing--after all, he owed nothing to no one.

And alternately, if you'd like to have your character terrorized interact with Vanitas in a particular way, hit me up for ideas. As long as it's not OOC, I'm open to almost anything.
