[As this entry opens, there's several seconds of faint birdsong in the background. A good indicator that Vanitas is outside somewhere. Why not? It's finally overcast and not so glaringly hot, today.

Just when it might seem the journal was clicked on accidentally, a voice finally speaks up, cool and even as always.] Once upon a time, there ( Read more... )

This is rather controversial topic but I'll tell you my thoughts. I think fate is just an excuse for people to be lazy. If you always assume that the outcome is inevitable then you aren't really relying on your own strength.

That's laziness.

If it was an easy question, I wouldn't have asked.

And I agree with you. But on the other hand, I'm curious to know how you'd explain multiple coincidences. Is that just chalked up to chance, too?

Good point.

Multiple coincidences? Do you mind giving an example?

I'll use something simple. Say there's two people with similar names, but they live their entire lives without knowing each other.

But they both share a birthday, fall into similar work, and die on the same day.

That's a little creepy.

Though it can't be all that strange. Even if you have similar fates you have different experiences. Shouldn't that be enough to branch out your individuality?

It got the point across.

Perhaps. But individuality aside, how do you explain coincidences like that, aside from fate?

Well yeah, it is true. You could say it's fate.

Death and birth are inevitable but a slight similarity in timing shouldn't mean anything.

We're all fated to die someday, just like how things are born into the world.

Without suffering or hardships people would never learn what it's like to live.
