Nothing of value is gained without some sort of price. There are always 'strings attached'. So what's the catch?

We're not talking about the real world, here. It's purely theoretical. [LIIIESSSS.]

So, which is it?

Well, even in theory I still wouldn't trust it. It sounds nice, I'll give you that.

Spoken like a real upstanding citizen type. So you'd let a chance for happiness pass you by, just because you have bad feelings about it?

"Upstanding citizen type?" Yeah right.

Who says that this one thing would make me happy, anyway? Hundreds of people live their lives chasing after things that they never really wanted in the first place. And even if I did take it, it might not be worth much anymore if it was just handed to me.

[Hm.] It's true that the best, most valuable things aren't given easily. But then which is worse: getting something for free, or missing your chance 'cause you were too caught up in figuring out whether it was worth it or not?

[Hmm indeed. Zan'nen takes a moment to think it over, but that answer is obvious.] The... second choice.

Doesn't have to be a trap. But even if it is, there's a difference between owned by it and just owning it.

[That... makes sense, certainly, but now it sounds as if he's talking about something in particular.] What do you mean?

I mean, that there's success. And then there's failure. [...nope, he's still being careful not to give too much info away.]

... If it's something, you usually don't have to worry about it owning you. [Fishing~...]

There's always exceptions.

[Okay, now he's just getting annoying, always flitting away from the core of whatever triggered this.]

So why did you ask, anyway? [If he says curiosity, Zan'nen is going to be pissed.]

[Welcome to 'Afternoon Chats with Vanitas'. On today's program we'll be discussing ways to be deceptive and irritating.]

Just wanted to know what other people's thoughts were.
