my sister sent me an email talking about how she doesnt like a particular social group, one that she apparently no longer sees herself a part of.....i absolutely refuse to type it out, all i will say is that they are the popular crowd.......
in turn, she has taken to labeling herself......or atleast is identifying herself with a particular title...which i understand completely cuz she's at that age
just to give you an idea of what she seems to be calling herself these days, here's a list of her favorite bands:
the killers, the bravery, my chemical romance, the yeah yeah yeahs......
anyway....here is my reply
offering her my advice on the subject......i hope she learns from this:
when were you ever a prep
i think in time you'll find it better not to consider yourself this or that
you are who you are and should never restrict yourself to a title
and by that i mean, dont call yourself any one thing or limit yourself to something just because you think you are this or that
be openminded about everything
taste in fashion, music or whatever shouldnt dictate who or what you are
for example, i dont call myself goth cuz i wear black, have piercings and listen to manson
and just as you should not label yourself, never label others
nothing good can ever come of it
i realize that you have now entered middle school and this is the age where people are begining to identify themselves with a particular group
but like i said, nothing good can ever come of labeling
and if someone doesnt accept you for being different than them, oh well, life goes on....not everyone is going to like you
it certainly isnt any reason for childish name calling
it doesnt matter what music you like or clothes you wear, just as long as you are a good person
