Last night when I went to bed, Adam (my boy cat) was sitting in my doorway with one of his toys at his paws. I laid down in my bed, and he looked up at me with the most desperate look in his eyes--Ooohhh, I want to go sleep with mommy, but I want to play with my toy, whatdoIdo?!?!? The cognitive dissonance he was experiences was so evident, and soooo cute!!!!
I said to him, "Adam, go play with your toy, and when you're finished, come to bed with me. I'll still be here, you know that. Go play and have fun. I'll be here waiting for you."
He still looked so desperate. I happened, at that point, to decide that I need to turn off the thermostat, which entailed walking past him. On my way back, I picked up his toy (a blue plastic milk ring), and tempted him with it, then tossed it into the living room. He chased it, and played. Then he came back to sleep with me. See, I told him so.
He's so cute!!!
