After leaving Professor Skywalker's office, Bod had wandered down to the graveyard in the rain. He hadn't stayed long but he hadn't dried off when he ended up at Kate's room. He gave a quiet knock and waited to see if she was in.
Bod slipped inside Kate's room slowly and shut the door behind him. He tried, he really tried, to cover up the emotional turmoil he was currently feeling. It was better to just being able to see her.
Kate looked up, smile turning from bright to just a little more tentative, just from the first hints of something being a bit off. Maybe. She wasn't sure. "Hi."
"No, of course not, don't be stupid," Kate assured him with a mild frown. She held her book up a bit. "I was just reading this shitty novel, I think you're saving me from brain damage."
"All right," he said, crossing his arms and looking down. He tried to shake himself out of -- out of whatever he was feeling. "It's still raining outside."
"I know," Kate said, sounding gentle despite herself. She put her book on her nightstand and sat up a little more, watching him. "Hopefully we're not stuck here for the entire summer."
"Hopefully not." He liked the rain and even this was too much for him. He finally pushed away from the door and came closer to her, taking his shoes off as he did. "I love you."
"Did something happen?" Kate asked, and then her eyebrows went up as she started making connections. He'd been watching those... games, right? Right. "Did something happen with your friend?"
Kate hadn't even known Katniss, but she still felt like she'd had the wind knocked out of her for a second or two. It was just-- she just wished there hadn't been so much death all the fucking time.
But this wasn't about her. "Oh, Bod, I'm... so sorry."
"Thank you," he said and sort of flopped down backwards onto her bed so he was looking up at the ceiling. "I knew it would probably happen. I'm just sorry it had to happen. I'm just -- "

"Hullo," he said quietly.
