Random Coffee Shop, Mainland, Early Monday Afternoon

Apr 18, 2011 14:43

As soon as Kate had woken up all normal and seventeen again, she'd taken off.

No, she wasn't particularly proud of that, but it had felt necessary at that particular moment. She'd needed to feel like a borderline adult again, and that meant doing shit on her own because she could. Not that her weetiny seven-year-old self hadn't done quite a bit of ( Read more... )

After waking up in Kate's now empty room, Bod had spent a few minutes panicking and wondering if her younger self had once again sneaked out. A few minutes of searching the floor hadn't turned up Kate but he did notice that her phone was gone when he came back to her room. That probably meant she was regular sized again and no longer tiny.

So, he dug around for his own clothes and sent a text message. Next time, you should leave me a note so I don't wake up alone and worried.

Kate felt a pang of guilt as soon as her phone buzzed, and it only got worse once she'd gingerly picked it up and read the message.

sorry, she sent back. i freaked out.

That didn't sound good. Bod frowned at the phone and tried to figure out why she might have freaked out.

Why?

Bod still didn't know what had brought this freakout on considering she'd been on the island for awhile and knew these things happened. He also didn't know what to say.

All right.

He wasn't mad (as worry seemed to be taking over now) and he just didn't know what else to say.

Kate really didn't know what to say, either. She wasn't sure why she'd flipped out, though she did know it wasn't because something weird had happened. Not as such.

i didn't go far, she offered. i'm just getting coffee on the mainland. sorry i made you worried.

Just perhaps leave a note next time, he sent, finally making his way out of Kate's room since he knew she wasn't on the island. It's fine, though. I'm fine.

okay. She doubted anything was really fine just now, but she wasn't about to start arguing about it over texts. thanks for taking care of me.

You're welcome.

Bod would have shrugged and told her not to mention it but she wasn't there so he simply thanked her.

Do you need anything?

Bod frowned at the text messages and got a little more worried about her.

I'm sorry, I don't think I can help with the coffee. If you're on the mainland, you can get more for yourself, can't you?

but the counter's way over there. Nevermind that her ginormous cup was still half full, anyway. come get it for me?

See? Reaching out. Like a good little wannabe grownup.

Wouldn't that take longer than you getting it yourself? Bod wondered if she was really that lazy.

Kate snorted and shook her head at that text. After a moment's thought, she took a picture of her largely full coffee cup, then sent that off with a message attached.

it's not really about the coffee.

You want me to come there? Bod eventually guessed and hoped he was right or he'd end up embarrassed.

So no embarrassment for him. He'd even figured it out fast enough.
