There had still been no way to contact Fandom today, so Kate was trying to keep busy and distracted. Somehow, that meant keeping her brother busy too: after coming home from school he'd been enlisted to dig out her old box of little porcelain figurines and assorted other trinkets from the garage, while she'd gone on a little search of her own through the house.
And now they had it all ready and assembled on her bed, where they were casually sitting on either side of the pile of knick-knacks, him in his vest, her in her costume with a feather duster in hand. She'd spent an hour digging through several closets just to find it.
"How do we even have that?" Marshall wondered, nodding briefly at the cleaning implement in question. "I mean, isn't that Alice's? And what on Earth could you possibly need it for?"
Really, it was because someone had their princess and French maid fantasies mixed up, but Kate cared not. She waved the duster at her brother, raising her eyebrows. "Well, have you been enjoying the Magic Bullet that I brought with me?"
Marshall actually stopped to think about it. Then he nodded. "Yes," he said. "It's such an affordable alternative to a Cuisinart."
Oh, Moosh. That comment alone made her realize how much she actually kinda missed him while she was away. "Well, a guy put it in my online wishlist, after I sat on a cake, after I met him at a comic book store," she said, pursing her lips a bit as she listed off the chain of events. Then she leaned towards her brother, smirking a little. "There's hundreds guys just like him." She shrugged a shoulder and waved the duster in the air again, almost playfully. "I do shit, and they buy me stuff."
Wasn't it awesome that it was just that simple? Yeah, Kate thought so.
But Marshall looked dubious. "Huh." And like he wanted to say something more, possibly a lot more, but then he'd also been a little edgy ever since he'd come back from school, like there was something on his mind. And, lo and behold... "Hey," he started after some more hesitating, "in terms of, like, how people see me... How gay do I act, on a scale from one to ten?"
"Ten."
Marshall looked affronted by how she hadn't hesitated even for a second. "Ten's the gayest."
"Oh." Well, if that was the case... "Eleven."
Her brother gave her an unamused look but she just laughed, then happened to glance at the clock on the wall. "Ooh," she said as she pushed herself onto her feet again, "methinks it's nigh on close to seven o'clock." She went to her desk to check on her laptop, and sure enough, there was already a video chat request from meta for sevenofnineluvr waiting for her. She clicked on 'Accept', and yet another nerdy guy with glasses popped up on her screen.
"Hey," he said, smiling like he'd never seen a hot chick in a shiny valkyrie costume before. "Princess... I've been waiting for you." She glanced over her shoulder at Marshall who mouthed the words 'what the fuck?' at her, and she was just about to give him a dismissive wave and silently reply when the guy on the screen cut her off. "Hey!" he exclaimed, maybe a touch more aggressively than was called for. Almost like an order. "Get rid of your friend."
"Oh." Kate moved to grab her brother by the shoulder and gently push him towards the door. "Marshall, go, get out of here." He yelped something in protest but she barely even listened to him. She was just glad to see him go through the bathroom into his own room, shutting the door behind himself.
With that done, she turned around to face the camera again, put on a bright smile and brandished her feather duster. "Okay, it's time to do some dusting!
[ooc: NFB, NFI, OOC-okay! Most of the dialogue lifted once again from USoT S02E08, because I'm seriously just hacking this ep up into itty bitty pieces that aren't even in the same order they were in originally.]
