Time was relative. For instance, from a Fandom perspective, it had been five days since Kate had come home from her second failed attempt to leave for Japan. For her, it had only been two. Time was slowing down in one universe in relation to the other, and she was not aware of this.
She was, however, aware that Ray the SkyKans guy had called her this morning to inform her that her other bag had finally returned to Kansas, and she could come pick it up, so back at the airport she was. She made an excited little noise once she saw Ray approaching, pulling her wheeled bag behind himself.
"Chicago, Boston, Frankfurt, Madrid, and back," he said as he passed the bag to her. "I don't think you or this bag were destined for Japan."
Meanwhile, Kate's joy was short-lived. She lifted the bag off the floor a couple of times. She hadn't been able to do that quite so easily when she'd been leaving. "Ray," she told him, "this bag feels empty." Ray gave her a nod and a lopsided little smile she didn't necessarily appreciate right now. "Wrote a haiku about that." He counted the syllables off on his fingers. "German bag checker. Palpitation, fumbling hands. Wears Kate's thong at work."
"Vivid imagery," Kate drawled. "Congrats."
Unaffected, he handed her a clipboard. "Lost property form," he told her, pulling a pen out of his pocket. "Fill it out, we'll get you some new panties." While she started on filling in the form, he added, "Hey, uh, I looked up that 'flower, bird, wind, moon' thing? Means 'experience the beauties of nature, and in doing so, learn about yourself'."
It sounded like something Bod would enjoy learning, Kate thought. "Hm." She glanced up at Ray, but her attention was drawn to something she could see over his shoulder. A perfectly put-together woman walking through the terminal doors. Dark brown curls and red lips and immaculately fitting uniform. It was Bridgette, and she was waving at Kate. Stunned, Kate waved back. And then it hit her. A great idea, an idea which caused the clipboard to hit Ray in the chest in turn as she shoved it at him, because she'd just changed her mind about the kind of form she wanted to be filling out. And it wasn't one to get new underwear. Eyes wide, she declared, "I would like a flight attendant's application, please."
Ray just looked... baffled. "I'm not the guy to talk to for that."
-----
Luckily, Ray did know someone who was the person to talk to about that, and it wasn't long at all before Kate was walking out of the terminal, safe in the knowledge that her application would soon be processed and she'd be contacted about coming in for testing and training. Standing outside the terminal doors, in the sunshine, shee was still grinning. She absolutely had to stop to send a text message to Bod.
i might become a flight attendant! also, kachou fuugetsu.
Then time, that relative bastard, slowed way down. Or continued on as it always had.
All a matter of perspective.
[ooc: NFB, NFI (unless the boy wants to respons to the text, not that Kate will get said response in a while), once more taken with tweakage from USoT S03E04. Kate's being saved from dealing with the Nothing by timey-wimey wackiness, yes. It might look like she's been Nothing'd to Fandom because no communication will go through until further notice, but she's really just stuck in the world's slowest 15 minutes for the duration of the BDE.]
