We're back to Warren Beatty again...because if I hadn't been baby-sitting for BC's offspring, which entailed watching some Saturday morning cartoons...a lot of things would've been different.

I love Roleplaying games. I used to be a HUGE D&D player. Loved ShadowRun. But for me, there were two things that killed it. First, we have had players that are just too into the numbers to afford flexibility. Everything was a statistic.

The second was that all games ended up being comedies. Like if you were the main character in a movie like the Golden Child. I preferred to play epic sagas. I preferred to get with other player characters and work creatively....Nope, there always had to be one player that had to be the comic relief and that player inevitably took over the campaign. When this started happening that would normally be my last time gaming.....

I didn't actually get into D&D until later. But when it comes to stats players, you have just described my ex. He was a total numbermancer (as he called it), and I swear he memorized all the tables and charts of hit points. And one of the LARP games had a GM who...everything had to be about her. If there was a problem only her player character could solve it, if there was something mysterious going on, nothing anyone suggested would get answers...plus she was a habitual liar IRL, but that's another story.
