I didn't get a great deal done today, but I did the dishes so my sink is empty (had an accumulation over the last few days). I got annoyed by the near-avalanche rattling around the dish cupboard and gave that a quick-and-dirty going over so that the bowls and measuring cups are grouped together in an orderly fashion. Made sure that the bowl I've been meaning to return to Kat for an embarassing length of time is sitting by the door where I theoretically can't miss it.
What that kicthen really needs is for me to finish ripping out the ex-heater closet. If I can just do that and have an outlet installed to plug the fridge into, I can turn that little el into a prep counter with some pegboard and shelves over it.
I'm the kind of cook who likes to have things accessible. When it comes to organizing things, I like it all where I can see it. Those are going to have to be some really sturdy shelves, because they're going to have lots of Pyrex and Corningware on them. I don't give a rat's ass if it matches---most of the Corningware is the original blue-on-white, but I've got a few pieces of the 70s spice set---and my nesting Pyrex bowls are from assorted patterns.
Likewise, some pegboard between the bottom shelf and countertop so I can grab the strainer, the spatula, the measuring spoons, etc. That way I can stash the potholders in a drawer instead of having them hanging from the cabinet door handles. There's already an outlet on that wall, and the new counter will make it a much better location for the toaster than the space it's currently in, not to mention it'll be a good area to set up a crockpot. God, I am SO looking forward to that bit of countertop, because that's going to be installed at a non-standard height that works for me.
Since it's March, I thought I ought to put away my Christmas decorations. That didn't take long; I took the wreath down from the office door and returned it to the middle room, and I bagged and stashed my nutcrackers, and tucked the shiny bags and ribbon away in the covered picnic baskets I use for that purpose.
I'm SO glad I did that load of laundry Saturday. The weather has decided to get cool again, and this way I have my lovely cranberry chenille sweater all fresh and ready to cuddle up in....
