Today I requested and was granted a day of personal time off on Friday the 28th. My original thought was to make preparations for the work I anticipated having done on the 29th. My co-worker's husband, who came out about two months ago to see the jobs I wanted done, is waffling: he wants to come back out this Sunday afternoon and look it over again. *eyeroll* He may or may not be able to do anything on the 29th, he says. His schedule is extremely heavy.

Last time, he came over it was an icky, drizzling evening, nearly dark. I'd gotten in less than ten minutes before that--after hitting Goodwill with GK--had completely forgotten the appointment til I opened the front door. (Good thing I still had my clothes on!) *I* may have been scatter-brained that day, but I thought *he* had it together. Now, it seems not.

My current plan for the bathroom sink re-do calls for a pair of legs under the new countertop instead of replacing the cabinet. The design is simple: a rectangular frame of 2x4s bolted lengthwise to the wall. The legs will be inside the front corners of the frame, screwed in place. The back of the countertop rests on the 2x4 that's bolted to the wall, and it's caulked within an inch of its life.

I want it painted white to go with the border I'm going to run around the ceiling after I get the wallpaper up--and there's no point in paying him for that; this is NOT rocket science, it does NOT require Michelangelo. Slapping a coat or two of KILZ on some posts and 2x4s isn't an intellectual exercise, but it isn't physically overwhelming either.

B suggested metal pipe might also make a good frame...that might be more economical. Screw flanges to the 2x4 that's bolted to the wall, and see if there *are* standard lengths of pipe that I can contrapt. I haven't ruled it out as an option. It depends on the relative price and how easy the components are to assemble. Basically, at this point, I have the countertop, which needs a sink cutout, I'm reusing the old sink (because it matches the tile), I have a new PVC U-bend to go underneath. I still need the frame (painted) and new faucets.

On the whole, I think the main things that stop me from trying to tackle the *whole* project by myself is lack of plumbing tools and the lingering fear that something will snap and I'll end up having to call a REAL expensive plumber. Well, that or maybe rack up my back again...which I'd prefer not to do. It's finally getting back to something like normal since I stopped using that black office chair.
