I had like a life-changing experience today. I was at work and for a split second I looked up at the door. At that very moment I saw two vehicles on the highway ram into eachother, head on. I guess one of the cars crossed the center lane and...it was awful. I freaked out and Joey called 911. The car was smoking and was on fire, it was just awful. Everyone went through the motions; the cops came, the firefighters put out the fire. But it was all in vain. The person in the car was killed. Someone died right before my eyes. I actually saw them pull the sheet over the body, and then when the mother came to identify her son, I saw them pull the sheet back, revealing his face. I saw the mother crumble and cry and kiss her dead son on his forehead. I saw her being comforted by total strangers, police officers and paramedics who have been trained to comfort victims at such times as these. That woman's life was changed forever in that one split second, as was her son's. I'm just praying to god that it wasn't a student. Think about it you guys. Anything can happen to us at any minute. None of us are safe, because our lives do not always rest in our own hands. As I was watching the scene I couldn't help but think that that car could have easily been me, or my mother who was on her way home from work, or one of my friends who had the sudden impulse to just go for a drive. Please be careful. I can't stress enough how seeing that happen, seeing the actual impact of those two cars affected me. Please be careful.
