Oracle Society Season 3 wrap-up

Mar 04, 2015 00:40

With The Stonehenge Massacre Season 3 is a wrap for my horror campaign: The Oracle Society.  This batch had 20 episodes/adventures!  Woo!

The players have had great fun pointing out that Season 3 took several years real time...but I just like to think of it as Cable Network scheduling.  Anyway, here is Season 3:

Ashes to Ashes
(Season Premiere) The Oracle Society must deal with a vengeful ghost only to discover that the animated body is actually the animated ghost of it's cremated remains.  Can they destroy something that's already been destroyed?
Basic vengeful ghost scenario, but I thought the haunted ashes would be fun to throw at them.  Of course the PCs took a full 0.3 seconds to grab the vacuum cleaner and start going to town...

WSRN
Local amatuer radio enthusiests have successfully begun broadcasting!  But why are they hearing women singing?  And why are people starting to dissapear.
If you put a fairie-blessed crystal in your home radio kit, don't be suprised if the Fairie respond.  Fun mostly to use the classical Sirens.

The Secret of Lander's Creek
Young Billy's father has returned!  But something about him has made Bily reach out to the Oracle Society...maybe becuase of all the acid burns and sudden deaths...
Toxic Waste Zombie and an evil sentient pool of toxic waste that was creating said zombies.  'Nuff said.

Scars
A former mob companion from Rose's past comes back and quickly starts taking revenge on those that have wronged him.
This was a Frankenstein's Monster story, although the PCs didn't know it as I went with a agile/speedster type of creation instead of the lumbering monster type.  Kind of fun to do the "old contact turns up as supernatural" bit.

Golden Years
The Oracle Society is called in when a series of unusual accidents occur at an assisted living facility.  However, they quickly discover that the elderly are not the ones in danger...
Old folk that discovered how to become vampires.  Just way too much fun in that, especially when get to have an 89 year old woman beat the living tar out of the group's best fighters.  Even as the group began advancing levels vampires are still a tough enemy.

Albatross
(broadcast as The Horror in the Parka in Europe)  When a retired explorer finds the spirits of the foreign dead are coming after him, it's up to the Oracle Society to save him and his family.
This was a bit of an homage to the pulpy 'retired explorer adventurer' character, as I didn't just want the stereotypical "native spirts get revenge" so I went with a family betrayal story.  Turned out surprisingly well.

Ghost Train
People are dissapearing and The Oracle Society is on the case!  Unfortunately on the case means figuring out how to stop a phantom train from taking them all to Hell!
I wanted to do a ghost train adventure since the very beginning but this one just didn't work.  Nice hook in the beginning, but it really became way too DnD/Deadlands action instead of modern horror.  Probably my least favorite adventure of Season 3.

Scales
There are tales of alligators in the sewers, and of reptilian people in the lofty skyscraper offices.  Unfortunately the Oracle Society is about to find out that not only are these true...they're not as seperate as people think.
Were-Crocodiles!!  Rich snobby politically powerful were-crocodiles!

The Man in the Frost
The Society must investigate a series of bizarre incidents at a foreboding skil lodge.  Surely nothing will go wrong what with the blizzard approaching and telecommunications down.
The players kept expecting Sasquatches on this one, but nope it was a fight against Jack Frost as he tormented an owner who tried to cut a deal.

Three Skulls of White
The Society must head down to Mexico to investigate some strange happenings involving a band, an angry police officer and the Incan Goddess of Suicides.
A Day of the Dead episode, the pcs had to fight a were-jabuar, La Llorona and the Incan goddess before getting the curses lifted.

Undying Revenge
A family in the Society's hometwon begin suffering bizarre accidents and as the deaths pile up the Society must track down the culprit!
A straight up Voodoo story.  Hexes and snakes and a different type of zombie, one that specifically does not go down from a head-shot.

Jack
Prostitutes in Providence are being attacked by a knife-happy slasher.  But when the attacker can apparently move through walls it's time for the Oracle Society to step in.
A Jack the Ripper story using a spirit that was mimicing the idea of Jack the Ripper rather than a historical spirit, which let me use all of the material out there rather than trying to limit it.

The Bogeyman
The Oracle Society faces off against a spirit that hides in the dark places and wants revenge.  How do you fight something that can hide under your bed, the back of your closet or even behind the stairs you're climbing down to the basement with?
This was a fun one.  I wanted this to be one of the real scary horror adventures so made sure the ghost got do all the creepy scary story abilities...like dragging the first victim under his bed and having the Society discover the bloody marks his fingernails left when he was pulled under.  Worked pretty well.

To Erase All Sin
(Broadcast as The Brewery of the Damned in Europe)  When a local Oktoberfest celebration becomes unusually violent the Oracle Society must find out just what evil lurks in the bottom of the bottle.
The return of a favorite Oracle Society Monster: The Sin Eater (last seen in Season 1's Angel of Mercy).  Bored of the pidly amount of sin she was getting, the monster decided to curse a batch of booze to bring out the drinker's sins.  More death, more sin and a more powerful monster.

The Feds
The Oracle Society is called in as murders escalate in South Boston of both police and mob figures.   Since when do ghosts start shooting people?
Ghostly agents from prohibition attacking the descendents of thier killers.  Basic story on this one, but it was fun to write up the "horror-version" of the Miranda rights that the ghosts would chant as they hunted their victims.

The Troubles at Rig 083
(The Logic Conspiracy Part 1 of 5)  The Oracle Society is hired to find out why there are so many problems at an Oil Rig off the New Orleans coast.
First use of a Gremlin in Oracle Society!  Woo!  Also fun as the Cyborg got to use his helicopter skills again.

Rats and Skulls
(The Logic Conspiracy Part 2 of 5)  The Society is called to Paris to find and defeat whatever is causing the unusual attacks in the Subway system.
Off to Paris and I got to send the PCs into the Catacombs..becuase one simply must.  The players began to put togehter that there were outside elements involved, as the second time they found odd things happening at a Ley Line juncture.

Lights in the Sky
(The Logic Conspiracy Part 3 of 5) Missing Time.  Odd electronic failures.  Bizarre lights in the evening sky that move in a way no human aircraft good.  The Oracle Society must find out if a small town in New Mexico is being visited from other worlds.
Nope, not aliens but almost every homage to them that I could throw in.  Instead the group had to try to stop a possessed military drone and discover that once again, a group is doing rituals over ley lines all over the world.

Humans Don't Combust
(The Logic Conspiracy Part 4 of 5) Searching for weirdness the group travels to Norway after a series of suspicious deaths is quickly covered up.   But the strange foes also include their oldest and deadliest enemy.  Can the Oracle Society survive?
A nice mystery plus plenty of Fairie folk to keep the PCs off balance.  Not only a final confrontation with Mordechai the Vampire but I also got to do a morgue attendant speech!  Whoo!

The Stonehenge Massacre
(The Logic Conspiracy Part 5 of 5, Season Finale)  The Society must travel to Stonehenge to defeat the evil Logic Conspiracy and their ritual.   Unfortunately when you face a foe that can twist reality itself is there any hope?
And thus the PCs fight and defeat the final conspiracy and their summoned Genies.  Lots of reality wierdness as brief return of The Fairie Queen complicated their plans even more.

And that is Season 3!  Some really fun adventures there and I got to use a ton of classic monsters and stories.  On to Season 4, which will be interesting as the group is getting to high levels and garnering quite the reputation among occult circles (both human and... not)
