Part 1 __________________
Sarah wiped the layers of flour and bits of dough off the table. She could smell the tempting scent escape from the oven as the cookies baked, taking their own time. Seungri was in Youngbae’s room staring at the fish. He had asked him so many questions and took so many precautions while baking that it seemed that one wrong step would cause the whole thing to explode. But he was just being cautious, of course. He didn’t want it to end up like Youngbae’s birthday cake.
She sighed as she leaned against the table. It was such a nice day to go out and she could finish some errands, but this was still the usual time that the Manyeo stalked around.
She could tell the Manyeo hated her more than ever, because she was doing everything in her power to ruin her life. First the prank calls, then the mysterious ringing doorbell, the missing laundry, and then the endless vandalizing. But for some reason the Manyeo seemed busy recently; busy with her own life.
Jiyong stalked in, looking for the Maknae and ignoring Sarah. Immediately he jumped at the oven when he caught the scent.
“COOKIES!” He hollered monstrously, as he opened the door to a crack to peek inside.
He turned to question Sarah when they would be finished. Before he could say a word something died in his throat. That was not Sarah.
Sarah blinked back waiting for Jiyong to say something. Instead he stared at her like a statue…in a trance?
Jiyong realized what he was making himself look like. He pointed at her trying to look as natural as a Jiyong would be. “My-my…headband!!!”
“Ask Seungri why I have it,” Sarah said somewhat disappointed that that was the only reason why Jiyong had been staring. She almost kicked herself, why should she be upset over Jiyong’s selfishness? It was natural. “I’ll take it off.”
“No!” Jiyong ran over and grabbed her hand before she had the chance to lift it off. “Don’t touch it!”
Jiyong looked at her eye to eye, hoping that she wasn’t getting any ideas to take it off just to spite him.
Sarah cleared her throat and motioned to his hand that was still holding onto hers tightly.
Jiyong responded immediately and let go of her, wiping his hand exaggeratedly on his pants. “Yuck! Now I have Sarah germs!”
He shuddered as he left the kitchen in a rush, ready to hunt Seungri down and confront him for taking his headband.
Daesung came home a few minutes later and not a second too soon. Right when the doorbell sounded the alarm went off at the oven. Sarah had slipped on the oven mitts to save the cookies from burning. Jiyong, who refused to answer the door, volunteered the Maknae, who proceeded eagerly.
“Hyung, look what I did!”
He showed off Sarah’s hair as she repeatedly asked for help with the oven door. After praising the Maknae, Daesung shut the door for her and helped her set the tray down.
He complimented Seungri’s work proudly and promised to never make fun of his dreams of being a stylist again, as they sat around the kitchen table munching on the cookies.
Daesung, Sarah, and Jiyong dipped theirs in milk so the cookies wouldn’t be so hot, unlike Seungri, who didn’t like milk and went ahead and burned his tongue.
After sucking on an ice cube to relieve the smarting Seungri spoke, ruining the silence. “Noona, can I take a picture of you?”
“Why, Seungri?”
“Because I want to remember how you look like.” Seungri leaned on the table still very proud over his creation. “So I can do it over and over again.”
Jiyong choked on the cookie crumbs as a reflex. Daesung chuckled good-naturedly as he saw Sarah’s confused and somewhat helpless face. “There’s nothing to be worried about, I wouldn’t mind having our housekeeper like this everyday.”
The door slammed open down the hall. Seunghyun was there, his man purse slightly dismantled. He kicked off his shoes violently and marched through the kitchen.
“Finally, you’re here!” Jiyong said relieved that he wouldn’t have to be such a social outcast from DaeRahSeung. “We’ve got cookies! Want one?”
Seunghyun pushed past him and headed for his room.
Daesung shook his head in disappointment and looked back at his direction in concern. “Not again.” He got up and followed him.
“Gosh, that’s like the fifth time.” Jiyong tsked as he took a sentimental bite from his cookie.
It was one of those instances when Sarah learned a new bit about Big Bang’s life style. “What’s wrong?”
“He got dumped again,” Seungri mumbled when Jiyong wouldn’t answer. “It happens like every month and he always wastes his time on them when he can be at home.”
That was something new. She had gone out with Seunghyun many times to the super market and they almost always got mobbed. A kind of girl to dump Seunghyun, who was always wanted, must have been mad. “Why do they do that?”
“Beats me,” Jiyong scowled. He left to help Daesung out, remembering to take a cookie with him before leaving.
Seunghyun was immovable, as Daesung knocked on the door constantly persuading him to come out. Jiyong pounded on the door impatiently, firing all the insults he could think of at the door. Seunghyun refused to open the door let alone answer.
“You freaking butthead! Open the freaking door!” Jiyong shrieked his voice going hoarse.
Daesung tapped the leader, trying to calm him down. “Hyung, I think we need to leave him along and give him space.”
“To heck with his space,” Jiyong muttered. “I left my good hair brush in there.”
Eventually, they gave up and left the oldest member sulk in peace. An hour later the apartment became still, causing Seunghyun to wonder if everybody was still there.
He peeked out the door and poked his head out casually. The coast was clear. No one was in the kitchen; no music was coming from Jiyong’s room. Then he remembered that Seungri and Jiyong had schedules. Sarah and Daesung had probably gone out to escape the stifling apartment. A spark fired somewhere in his stomach. The past weeks Sarah and Daesung had grown closer and seemed so more like brother and sister to each other. A sizzle of envy had grown. Daesung was so likeable and everyone wanted to be his friend. Why couldn’t a girl just stay around for a month with him? He was so sick of the reasons that he wasn’t friendly enough or just good-looking and nothing else.
The living room was empty as he jumped on the couch trying to enjoy the fact that he was by himself.
He scowled at the naked statue that was positioned strategically on top of the television. It had appeared miraculously by the front door when they came home from their outing glued together with some kind of impossible solution. The others had gotten used to it, but Seunghyun could not look at it for three seconds without feeling some kind of sickening twist in his stomach.
He snatched the remote that had been laid aside nicely by Daesung and flipped through the channels, slamming on the buttons violently. It wasn’t until he had heard 2pm’s singing on Music Bank the third time that he realized he had been going around in circles unconsciously. TV couldn’t help him. He clicked it off and headed for the kitchen.
He couldn’t watch Youngbae’s fish, which usually calmed him down. They were always a happy bunch and looking at them would make him feel worse.
There was a box of cookies in a container that had been reserved for Youngbae. Seunghyun popped the lid open and grabbed a cookie, biting it hastily, hoping eating would take his mind off his problems. It did quite the opposite, actually. The cookies were unexpectedly warm and he burned his tongue in the process.
He laid his head dejectedly on the table as he pushed the container away from him and waited for his tongue to recover some sense.
He felt subtle a sob trying to choke him. He felt like no one wanted him. All the stress had built up leading from one to another and revolved around the fact that no on seemed to ever care. How many girls had told him that he was really just a block of stone? Even around this subject Seungri refused to sympathize with him at all. He never thought it as a form of jealously it was all unfeeling spirit to Seunghyun.
“Oppa, are you okay?”
He kept his head laid on the table, refusing to look up at Sarah.
“Is there something bothering you?” Sarah set the grocery bags that she had been dragging along on the floor.
Seunghyun answered with a childish grunt, moving his head to the side so he could face the wall. Sarah stood above him, looking down at him like a mother, knowing that something was up. “Are you feeling well?”
She lifted his head holding his chin and turned his cheeks from side to side, inspecting him. She felt his fore head with the back of her palm. “Oh, dear, you’re burning!” She exclaimed in an exaggerated voice. “Do you want me to bring you to the hospital?”
Seunghyun shook his head, still refusing to speak and brushed her hand away.
“Do you want me to call Manager? No? What if I called Jiyong-oppa to check up on you?”
He glared at her. As if she would do that. Sarah smiled back at the pair of grumpy eyes and thrust her hand into the nearest grocery bag, revealing a popsicle wrap. “Want one?”
Seunghyun sighed and took the treat trying to act as if he had been forced to take it, although it was exactly what he wanted at the moment. His eyes lit up at the corners when he found out that it was his favorite flavor; orange.
Sarah took the chance, knowing that once Seunghyun was eating he was more obliged to talk. “Oppa, what’s bothering you?”
Seunghyun, who had forgotten his childish attitude earlier, spoke after a few licks from his popsicle. “Girl problems. They get so giddy at first, but a few weeks they just leave. It’s like I’m some kind of toy they push around.”
“Mmhmm…” Sarah tapped her fingers thoughtfully on the table and drew circles with her fingertips. “Why do they dump you? Do they give you a reason?”
Seunghyun bit a piece of the icy goodness from his treat before answering. “They say that I’m a robot and not what they expected me to be.”
“Aha!” Sarah flicked her finger up like a light bulb. “That’s why! Do they ever mention that you’re boring?”
“Well, yeah…”
“Then we’ve got this solved.” Sarah stood up excitedly. “We just have to fix up your style and impression and you’re good to go.”
“And how do you intend to do that?”
“I’ll be coaching you!”
“You’ll what?”
Sarah waved it off. She was extremely excited at this point. “I’ve done it with my oldest brother before and now he’s married with children. Don’t you think that’s success enough?”
“Yeah, but-”
Sarah, all starry eyed had a difficult time controlling herself. She had done this many times with her brothers and finally she could do it gain. “We’ll start tomorrow! I’ve got to tell Seungri and ask him to help out.”
Seunghyun knew it was already useless to stop her so he let her run off. Hanging around the Maknae was starting to have an affect on her, as his childishness started to rub off on her. He didn’t really mind though. But there was someone who did; too much.
“Why the heck are you always in the way?” Jiyong blurted as he bumped into Sarah down the hall, who was still in a good mood even if she was confronted by him.
“Why are you always mad at me?” Sarah shot back, boring holes into him with her stare.
“Because--- stop looking at me like that!”
“Like what?”
“Like that!” Jiyong stopped himself before he lost a lot of pride, which he wanted to keep. “And take off that ridiculous headband.”
Thank goodness, she wanted to take it off anyway.
“Wait.” She stopped halfway before removing it. “You didn’t want me to take it off earlier.”
“No, I didn’t!” Jiyong denied himself loudly.
Sarah laughed in such a childish way that she almost giggling. “Are you just jealous because I look better in it than you?”
“Yes! I mean, NO!” Jiyong said hotly. “Just-just go!”
“You should have asked earlier, your highness,” Sarah said, flashing a good-natured smile as she skipped away. For the first time she had actually teased Jiyong, and, gosh it felt good. Youngbae was right.
Jiyong watched her retreating figure, wanting to smack himself rather than go back and confront her. “Aigsh, that girl! Really!”
He rushed into the apartment, to the kitchen where Seunghyun was just finishing his popsicle and tried to calm himself down by munching on Youngbae’s cookies inconsiderately.
