"Lumos," Nick whispered and could finally see Joe. After snogging for a few minutes in the dark, he'd decided some light would be nice.
Joe, it seemed, had other ideas as he put his hand on the wand and said, "Nox."
The light went out and Nick said, "Lumos," making it go back on. They warred for a few moments with the light going on and off several times before Nick finally wrenched the wand out of Joe's reach. "We’re wasting time arguing like those little old Fairy Godmothers in Sleeping Beauty,” Nick hissed. “What does it matter if the light's on?"
Joe pouted and said, "It's more romantic if it's off..."
"Yeah, but you'll like...step on my foot or something."
"I do that anyway."
"True. But I like to be able to see you."
“But seeing all Filch’s cleaning supplies is a bit…of a mood killer?” Nick was about to concede that Joe had won a point with that but Joe just grinned, grabbed Nick by the hips and ground against him hard and needy. “Nope, still in the mood.”

“Evanesco,” Joe said and the sticky evidence of their rushed handjobs vanished. Joe sat up and leaned against the door. Nick pulled on his own clothing as he watched Joe more or less tug everything on and begin to struggle half-heartedly with the button. Nick laughed and straddled Joe’s knees before helping, then collapsed into a giggling heap as Joe began to tickle him.
“S-stop!” he said through fits of laughter while leaning heavily against the older Jonas. But Joe apparently had no mercy as his fingers just dug into the soft baby fat Nick hated so much. Suddenly Joe fell backwards and his hands did stop moving, but Nick fell as well, face pressed against Joe’s chest because the door was open.
He heard more than saw the back of Joe’s head hit the floor and his brother said, “Ow!” Nick shifted so he was no longer sprawled on top of Joe and looked up to see McGonegall’s sharp eyes staring down at them.
“Why am I not surprised to find you two in the last place I look: a closet?” Nick couldn’t help it as he burst out laughing at her word choice, but somehow Joe managed to keep his composure. Maybe it was the newly formed bump on the back of his head, or maybe it was the look in her eyes, but Nick shut up fast.
“We accidentally locked ourselves in,” Joe muttered and McGonegall’s lips thinned even more. Nick hadn’t thought that was possible.
“It’s too late to have this conversation with you two, but we will have it at some point. There’s a lot to be discussed.” She sighed and Nick couldn’t quite shake the feeling that she knew what they’d really been doing. “Either way it’s almost curfew and you two should be getting to bed. Joseph, you have a big day ahead of you.” They stood up and Joe rubbed at the back of his head tentatively where it had hit the stone floor and winced.
Nick caught himself before he could see if Joe was okay, touch Joe just to make sure, and he said, “Goodnight, Professor.” Joe bid her goodnight as well, grabbed their wands and led the way back to Gryffindor Tower. They made the trip in silence and it wasn’t until they were both lying under Joe’s covers with the silencing spell around them that Nick said, “I guess we’re not very good at keeping this a secret…”
It was a while before Joe answered and Nick was wondering if his brother had fallen asleep but then he said, “I don’t like having to keep it secret…”

Joe wasn’t there when he woke up the next morning and where his head should have been there was a short note. Had to meet with everyone really early. See you later! Love, Joe.
He made his way down to breakfast and ignored the stare he received from everyone and took a seat between Selena and David, glad that they were treating him normally. “Where’s your other half?” someone, a Slytherin, jeered as they passed behind him on their way to the Slytherin table.
Their friend sniggered, “Yeah, really, you two are practically attached at the hip. Was the surgery painful?”
He felt an arm around his shoulders and looked up from where his head had been buried in his arms which were crossed and resting on the table. Selena had moved closer and was hugging him from the side and he leaned into it while deciding if he wanted to leave or kick the Slytherin’s faces in.
“Awe, look!” one of them said and Nick’s face burned a brighter shade of red. “The queer comforting the queer! Where’s the French girl? I guess she and the other Jonas had to go to some super top-secret Champion meeting or something!”
“Yeah, that or they’re totally cheating on you guys…”
He felt movement to his right as David stood up and said, “Thirty points from Slytherin now go to your table and stop picking on my friends.” Most times, Nick forgot David was not only a Prefect but also Head Boy.
“We’re allowed to express our opinion,” they huffed and were acting as if they were the offended party.
“Not when your opinions are hurting other younger students, let’s make it thirty each. Now stop picking on him unless you want me to make it thirty per insult.” They left in a hurry and David sat back down.
“Thanks,” Nick mumbled.
David just ruffled his hair and said, “Don’t mention it” before taking a bite out of his omelet. On the way to the Quidditch pitch where the first event was taking place they were joined by Sterling and Demi as well as a few others. The twins had a large block of space at the top for the best view, and somehow had secured it all to themselves and they waved the group over with a large banner that was supporting Joe. Nick climbed up feeling better than he thought he would, even though he was still worried about his brother he knew Joe could handle himself well and that there would be plenty of witches and wizards around in case something went wrong.
