And so we come to the subject of
Alistair Campbells World Cup Blog
For those who don't want to sully their minds by gazing upon (and I would recommend this option) I can paraphrase his first entry as follows:
'Women who think anyone cares about their opinions - aren't they shit? People who don't like football, especially men, are shit too. I'm not shit at all however, nor is the England manager Sven Goran Eriksson. In fact Sven is so good he's a bit like Tony. Tony is really lovely. Everyone secretly knows Tony is lovely. He's a jolly good leader too and everything is great. The only people who don't think this are journalists, but no one cares what they say.'
I don't think my summary is especially unfair to the original. Which raises important questions...
Does Alistair Campbell know he reads like a satire on Soviet propaganda?
Does he care?
Would anyone have read his blog if the BBC hadn't linked to it on the grounds that it had caused offence to women (and men who don't like football, and all journalists, and anyone with common sense)?
Is any publicity better than no publicity?
